Congrats to the French for having 600,000 plus KIA in one battle, they managed to retake the FORT COMPLEX they built.

OF course the British made such a victory possible by having another 600,000 KIA at the SOMME, the Allies idea to releave

the pressure off the French. Putting this in perspective the British had about 60,000 KIA on the FIRST DAY at SOMME, surpassing

the US KIA for the entire Vietnam war. To make things worse May 31 `1916 at Jutland the Imperial German

High Seas Fleet let the English know someone else built better warships than they did.

VERDUN lead to the French army staging a general mutiny if the Germans had ever been aware the war would have ended in two weeks.

 

The fun began with Trotsky when Stalin had him stabbed to death (in the head) with an ice pick in MEXICO CITY many years later,

lousy way to go out.

 

You get a star if you can name and spell correctly the six Japanese Aircraft Carriers that raided Pearl Harbor, no google c'mon step it up.

 

And if you can name the pilot who lead the attack (that's probably not on google) you get an atta-boy.

 

I thought that was never confirmed but fairly obvious that he did?

 

My WW2 history is awfully rusty, but I'll take a shot: I believe all 4 of the carriers lost at Midway went to Pearl: Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu. And I think the other 2 were Zuikaku and ... ummm... Shokaku?
As for the lead pilot, was that Genda?

 

Woot! Well done Sarge now that is knowing your stuff…..Yes Minoru Genda was lead pilot.

Great Job on those Carriers, BTW the BEST book on Midway with many new Japanese sources a few years back is called…..

"Shattered Sword" its groundbreaking and a flat out fabulous read.
