Like instantdeath, I'm hoping for "YOU ARE NOT ALONE" in the Arrow season finale.

Yeah... the MCU suffers from the lack of DOOM, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four.

    In that order.

I'm glad that the mutants aren't involved, though. The X-Men have always felt out of place in the larger Marvel universe, IMO.

I have been slain. I have left my physical body and become one with the Force. Who was my bane?

    Darth Bane?
    Cad Bane?
    Bane Nothos?
    Bane Malar?

    You've got a choice.

    Or why not this guy?

To be fair, they've never really - despite attempts to do so - been integrated that much into the Marvel universe, which I suspect is what Uli's getting at.

I'd see it as being a little different in that case as there's no geographical aspect to it.

    Pretty much.

I mean, a large part of their schtick is that people hate and fear them because they're got powers and that it doesn't matter how much good they do, they'll always be ostracized for being different.

Only, over the road, YAY FANTASTIC FOUR! YAY CAPTAIN AMERICA! YAY SUPERHERO CELEBRITY CULTURE! etc.

It's silly. Yeah, you have non-mutant superheroes with bad publicity and they did the whole Civil War thing but, generally speaking, if a powered hero is doing good, the Marvel populace like them. If a powered mutant is doing good, the Marvel populace go "eww mutant!"

Or, at least, that's my perception.

Uli, ever read Ellis' Astonishing X-Men? The Exogenetic arc with Jimenez on art takes aim at exactly what you're talking about.

At the same time, that the likes of the FF or Avengers see no problem with anti-mutant attitudes, while being anti-racist/sexist and so on, does not track either. The Marvel world should have changed, but it can't do, it's all locked in.

Should be able to get the trade for under a tenner easy. (Unless it's gone out of print)

How much FF have you read? They are kicked out of Baxter building in every third storyline and what about all the times we see protesters outside of Avengers' building and then there is also Spider-Man

The answer is clearly that the mutants need better marketing strategists and public relations specialists. Image, people, image.

"Yeah, you have non-mutant superheroes with bad publicity"

And again, but for some exceptions (like Spider-Man), their names being in the gutter isn't the status quo.

Anyhoo, you asked why I felt the X-Men weren't a great fit for the greater Marvel universe and I have told you: because it's one rule for mutants, and another for superheroes. If you feel differently, that's cool... I'm not interested in changing your mind.

Mainly because I find this conversation tediously boring and don't care enough about Marvel one way or another. :p

The X-men started out as a allegory for social misfits and even minorities. When they first debut, it was topical. Even now, many of us can still relate as we were ostracized in some fashion, and the message that just because you're different doesn't mean you're any less, no matter what The Man might say still rings true for many of us.

However, as a society, we have moved on, and the Marvel universe has done so, too--to a degree. The X-men, however, are still clinging to the concept that birthed them in the first place, which is one of the reasons they still feel so out-of-place.

Except for Wolverine. He gets around. He's integrated himself pretty well, with his mutant ability of appearing in twenty books a month.
