True, self is transient, letting that go for the betterment of the whole is a far greater calling. Yet how can one do more for the whole if one sacrifices oneself?

 

A Jedi's willingness to "sacrifice" self should go hand-in-hand with her instinct of self preservation.

We cannot be strong in the Force unless we give of ourselves, which in turn preserves us in the Force.

A Jedi's true strength is not found in flesh and blood, but rather the ability to lay one's life (both literally and figuratively) for the love of the greater good.

I'd like to ask you all about your particular philosophy of the Force. Do you align with the Living Force or Unifying Force philosophy?

I'd also be interested in how you evaluate the Light and Dark side. Do the two extremes exist, even in the absense of sentient life?

 

I am more for the Living Force point of view. Although seeing the future or the past can be helpful with it's insights, being mired by them can blind you to the problems and solutions to the here and now. A little bit of the Unifying Force goes a long way in my book and the Living Force smaller steps, having individuals better suited to each working together with more Living than Unifying can lead to better results I feel. Not always but possibly.

As for if the two sides exist in non-sentient life I would have to say yes. After all where does life end? If the force flows through a ship, a rock, and the stars themselves than so too must the duality of the Force be present. Unless you are within a Force void there are sides, perhaps in better balance without sentient life, but perhaps not as well if Bogden was heavily involved in there no longer being life present, or Ashla if sentient life left such an indelible foot print before leaving.
