Hair is an important part of fashion. Would people want to discus (a.k.a. post pictures of) hair and hairstyles in SW?

I think I get what you mean but not to create a misunderstanding: what do you mean with natural hair?

and for reference: the pic talked about

I'm starting to wonder if Balin was actually a Ryn.

I would say no, he lack the 'stache
Now, on the other hand we have Óin, Dwalin, Dori, Nori, Bombur, Bofur, Bifur, Fíli and Glóin who all show moustaches worthy of a ryn, all that is missing is the beak-nose and the tail.
Sorry about the image but if I used the individual pictures this would take to much place
    [IMG]

Now I want somebody to reimagen Óin, Dwalin, Dori, Nori, Bombur, Bofur, Bifur, Fíli and Glóin as ryns[face_praying]

This sounds like a challenge you need to lay before the fan art forum. They'll probably make sketch cards for them all.:p

The fan art forum is unmapped land for me. Were should I ask/give the challenge?

Speaking of Hairstyles. I am very glad they decided against the two padawan braids they were orginially looking at for TPM.

That just would not seem practical for fighting.

Two braids? So, like, pigtails? Also, I wonder if McGregor's hair was that long of his own volition, or if they asked him to grow it long for the specific purpose of being able to cut it the way they'd need to in order to braid it?

He had recently filmed Velvet Goldmine prior to Episode 1 at that role required long hair

Even in the EU post ROTJ Corran grows his hair from a more military cut to having a short ponytail in some pics,Plus both Kyp and Ganner are portrayed with long hair in the NJO.

Yeah, it's fairly common for Jedi to have longer hair, in the movies and EU both. Sometimes really long, like Qui-Gon or Joclad Danva, or sometimes just slightly longer-than-average, like Anakin in ROTS, or Jacen Solo.

Not that I can think of. King Rash from TCW had a headpiece resembling one, but not quite.

Looks like that was the standard Onderonian royal headgear during the last decades of the Republic, since Rash's predecessor Ramsis Dendup also had one when he was king--see below. The trivia guide for the episode "Fronty Runners" on the official website clearly says: "As is evident in this episode, the design of Iziz draws heavily from ancient Rome. King Sanjay Rash's design heavily features Roman influences, including a headband that suggests gilded laurel leaves at his temples."

Note that Nolaa Tarkona should be dismissed: she deliberately dressed and filed her teeth to look like a male--which was easier by the fact she had a goiter.

    Huh?
Also: was it not the other way around with the teeth? That females had their pointy teeth filed down?

Let me explain: the Twi'leks have naturally sharp fangs, but the women's teeth are normally sanded so they're blunt. The males not only keep their teeth naturally sharp, but they enhance their sharpness with a filing tool.
