As a kid, I used to entertain the idea of writing my own fanfic ST. In this imaginary narrative, the villain was an immensely powerful ancient force user, the individual who had originally delivered the prophecy spoken of in the PT.

This guy was essentially a grey existential nihilist, utilising both light and dark powers without allegiance to either and seeing the force as more of a spectrum than a binary construct. He wasn't power-crazed like a Sith - for him, everything was a game, an experiment. The old Jedi order exiled him to some distant part of the galaxy for being too damn powerful to control, but knew that there was probably truth in his prophecy given some proven ability of his to observe the future.

So he watches the whole Jedi/Sith conflict unfold with mild interest, all the while building his own cult of force users to take on whoever wins. Luke takes out the Sith, and our enemy gives him a few decades to get the Jedi Order up and running again, as a matter of sportsmanship, and to make the contest more interesting.

Episode VII starts, and our new antagonist shows up with his amoral cult of force users to attack. He's 1000 years old, but looks about 30. No black cloak and cackling evil demeanour; he wears pure white, just to troll, and speaks like a perfectly civilised and genial individual. He doesn't care whether he wins or loses; he'll die with a smile on his face. It's all just a game. He's been able to see the future up until this point, but now anything can happen. Balance was brought to the force, just as he predicted, but he finds balance boring, and now chooses to continue the conflict himself.

    Wow, another great idea!

    This thread is hot lately.

I think I like your description of his attitude best of all.

    Awesome.

That sounds too much like the reboot Khan from the latest Star Trek to me.

If Ben Skywalker and Mara Jade are retconned then I could imagine a scenario where Luke Skywalker has reestablished the Jedi Order but has left the Jedi Council to privately train his own son in the Force at his own homestead on a far distant planet. His son is curious about the outside world. He is not isolated from it as Luke, but is more curious about his family heritage which Luke has somewhat deprived him of, at least until he is older. This means the parts concerning Darth Vader.

While in this rural style of living a former female Dark Jedi loyal to Darth Vader who once had a deep romantic love interest for him finally learns the death of how her master died at Endor. She seeks out Luke Skywalker and seeks to kill him in revenge for what he had done. His son is also a target of hers as she would be able to turn him into the Sith child she never had from Vader. Together the two could plot to overthrow the Republic and rule the galaxy.

Luke's son does join the Dark Side as he becomes angry over never being told the truth about his grandfather Darth Vader and the awful atrocities he has done.

Just randomly popped into my head now: use Thrawn (take the big aspects of the character's set-up, history, and style, ditch other stuff that doesn't fit as in he obviously isn't dead before the movie begins), have Jedi vs. Sith and so forth and all of the stuff we want in a Star Wars Movie. And Thrawn seems to be random Imp guy who does Imp admiral stuff but then, fake out, Thrawn is ordering around the Sith Lord (the aforementioned Sith Lord is still all Dark Side of the Force and Sith-y and a legitimate threat, he just takes his marching orders from Thrawn). Kind of like the C'baoth/Thrawn dynamic in the Zhan novels. Steal and spice from that plot point liberally. Also I would get a kick out of seeing a non-Force user boss around and Mastermind the Evil Sith Lord because it'd be a flip of how basically everything that happened in Plapy's Grand Scheme in the PT.

E7 opens with either the final battle between the Imperial Remnant, or some peace treaty finally being signed between the Remnant and the Republic. However, this new peace is immediately broken by the invasion of a dangerous alien threat from the Unknown Regions (more Rakata than Vong like). The Remnant and other worlds are quickly enslaved or destroyed and Luke and his small band of Jedi can only temporarily hold this threat off before they begin conquering the Core worlds. Against the advice of their parents, the Sky-Solo children decide to learn more about the Sith and darkside, believing that it may be the only way of defeating the alien threat. They end up teaming up with an Imperial Commander who is the only one who knows where to find the Sith planet...but he may have ulterior reasons for seeking darkside knowledge: the reformation of the Sith Order and the destruction of the Jedi and Republic.

Yup. I can see this. I kinda dig the idea of the remnant Imperial officers and besieged stormtroopers joining forces with the Alliance because they have no other choice. Perhaps all the behest of Luke. It could be really dramatic having two sides who have fought bitterly for 3 decades come to battle together as comrades against some other more deadly armada.

I was totally with you until this part though. I personally don't want Sith or Solo Children Darksiders. I don't want the same conflict of Father VS Children. I want the Jedi to prosper and build a new golden era. Right now the Galaxy is in disarray. The Dark Times brought death and destruction...now it's time to have Luke and his new band of Jedi Knights bring light back to the Galaxy. That's what I want to see. Jedi being awesome Jedi.

Oh, I think in this scenario the Sky-Solo kids would be wrong in thinking that the darkside would help. But being young and interested in Vader's legacy of power, they might be rebellious and desperate enough to give it a shot...but the results would not be good. Ultimately Luke's Jedi would save the day, imo. The Jedi would destroy the aliens and the Imperial Commander-become-Sith.

Anyway, this is just the kind of plot I can see the ST following. I would choose something much more eccentric.

Just for kicks and giggles, here is a "leaked" possible plot for TPM from around December 1997 (18 months before release):

A possible plotline to Star Wars: Episode 1 in brief:
The opening crawl pans to Coruscant, the capital of the Republic. Fade into the Senate where thousands of Senators are yelling at each other. Chaos rules the Senate and nothing gets accomplished. Meanwhile, on Alderaan, the home world of the young Queen, the Mandalorian attack this beautiful grassland world, which is led by Bail Organa. Organa seeks help from the Republic. The Republic orders the Jedi Knights to repel the Mandalorian attack.
Meanwhile, Ben Kenobi, piloting the Millenium Falcon with a stange and exotic creature as co-pilot, arrives on Tatooine carrying an illegal shipment of spice for Jabba the Hutt. Kenobi arrives on a landing bay at Jabba's stronghold, where Anakin's mother works for Jabba while Anakin entertains Jabba and his minions with his new found and amazing Force talents. Suddenly, the Tusken Raiders attack Jabba's fortress and Anakin's mother is killed during the battle. Ben saves the young Anakin during this attack and they flee Tatooine in the Falcon and plot a course for Corellia.
The young Queen flees Alderaan with her droids. She is chased by the Mandalorian and she sends out a distress signal for help. Ben intercepts this signal and rescues the young Queen from the Mandalorian. Finally, the Jedi Knights arrive in the Alderaan star system and drive the Mandalorian from Alderaan.
Ben escorts the young Queen to Coruscant to meet with Yoda and a venerable Jedi Master to finish her Jedi training. Yoda is impressed with Ben and encourages Ben to learn the ways of the Force with the young Queen. Anakin watches as Yoda trains Ben, the young Queen and several dozen young recruits to become Jedi Knights. Yoda explains the origins of the Force and the depths of its powers and warns against the great temptations that the dark side will present to each of them. Meanwhile, the Sith Lords steal the Kaiburr Chrystal from the vaults of the Jedi Council and head for a rendezvous point on Mon Calamari.
The Jedi Knights (along with the venerable Jedi Master, Ben and the young Queen) and the Republic fleet pursue the Sith Lords to Mon Calamari. The Jedi and Republic warriors are ambushed by the Sith Lords and their allies. Subsequently, a great aquatic battle occurs both above and below the waters of Mon Calamari. With help from the Calamarians, the Sith are defeated and the powerful Kaiburr Chrystal is returned to the safety of the Jedi vaults on Coruscant.

Why not have the Mandalorians try to resurrect their ancient empire serve as a threat that invades the New Republic? They are using ancient Sith technology to accomplish their goals and seek to reappoint one as an ally of theirs.

Given Mark Hamill's range of voice acting, it would be interesting to see a bad-guy twin of Luke Skywalker. Maybe a clone of some sort, which has a lot of Palpatines cackling and laughter mixed in with the zanniness of the Joker. Some kind of clone experiment where Luke's hand was recovered some how and cloned by Imperial engineers. After the battle of Endor research was halted on the project. As the last remnants of the old Empire are about to fall, research resumes. Luke is abducted at some point early on, and his bad-guy clone pretends to be him. Luke ends up fighting himself in the end, quite literally (Think Superman 3). This would give Mark an opportunity to show his full range. The good-guy Luke could be played more seriously like the character had been developing, whilst the bad-guy twin could be over the top.

An ancient Sith Lord has been in hibernation somewhere in the galaxy for over 2,000 years. His resurrection allows him the ability to try and restore his fallen empire and conquer the New Republic in the process. He is even more powerful than the Emperor. There done.

so many possiblities to go with but I keep going back to a planet of sith like in The Fate of The Jedi, series. You can have Vastera daugther of a sith lord and Ben son of the jedi order grand master. We will see the struggles they go through back and fourth along with a planet full of sith invading the Republic. We can also have Han and Leia, Jaina fight to keep there grand daughter Allana, Jacens's and Hapan Queen Ten'al Ka safe from the sith. I would also not mind the threat of the Rakata coming back to conquer the galaxy once again and Luke, Jedi order and Republic must fight with everything they have, even siding with old Empire remenates to fight back.

    True story

I was at my local gaming store today playing X-wing, and someone brought up that the sequel trilogy was going to be adaptations of the thrawn trilogy. I briefly spoke up saying that's almost definitely not the case, but pretty much everyone there were all adamant that they heard it was going to be the thrawn trilogy.

Is that rumor still going around heavily online or something?

The Empire or the New Republic has been conducting some sort of military experiment in the Unknown Regions during the Galactic Civil War and it gets loose like locust across the Galaxy. Whether that be a mutant clone army, a legion of twisted clones of Jedi knights, the Mandalorians or another alien race been had been secretly harvesting Imperial weapons and rebuilding their forces with it to launch a new war of reconquest, etc.

I personally would like to see that during the reign of the Empire, the Mandalorians had spies infiltrating the Imperial navy and started stealing secrets and ship/weapon designs that they could harvest all of their own in secret. With the weakness of the end of the Galactic Civil War they reclaim older planets and begin to conquer the New Republic and reestablish their own empire once again.

From the villain situation, this would be an interesting idea of a beginning(not that all of it has to turn out to be true of the movie):

    • The New Republic approaches the prime of it's power.
    • What remains of the Imperial faction is approaching annihilation and collapse, with the infighting of the remaining Moffs, Admirals, Intelligence officers, and Generals.
    • Knowing their imminent doom, an emergency diplomatic council is conceived by the most powerful remaining Imperial warlords of all branches described above, in order to find a way to attempt to settle their differences and come to an agreement on a new leader and Supreme Commander to save them from infighting and destruction.
    • There is a mysterious new male rising Imperial officer in this council of warlords that many are beginning to believe is the savior they have been looking for. But there is still a small minority that is stubborn, narrow-minded, and opposes him.
    • The council is starting to get mysterious contacts, through their young ruthless female Imperial intelligence officer liaison (strong female role alert), by a shadowy and intimidating cloaked figure with the power of the dark side that claims to be the late Palpatine's disciple and heir. The Council, over time, grows to fear him even though they don't know who or where he is, how he knows so much, what his plans are, and if they should pledge their loyalty to someone they've never met in person.
    • The female liaison Intelligence officer, is later revealed in her secret chambers on an unknown planet to be able to have a hidden alter ego, can use the Force and is the apprentice to the mystery shadow figure
    • Eventually, the day comes to decide if or who of the Council will lead. The rising star Imperial officer warlord has earned many alliances and loyalties among the branches in the Council. After a vote, a majority of the Council's most powerful and resourceful members chooses this Imperial officer to lead them as the Commander-in-Chief of the Remnant Empire. The minority of warlords still stubbornly resist this, but the Imperial officer promoted to his position shockingly reveals his ability to use the force (a secret that his most trusted loyal followers are already privy to) and in a humiliating fashion in front of the loyal council, forces the fearful minority to take their blasters and commit suicide in front of everyone. This ends all opposition to him.
    • This Imperial officer than reveals himself to the remaining loyal Council that he is shadowy disciple that has been contacting them. He reveals his identity as a Darth along with his title, and that he was with them and observing them all along. He then introduces into the room the female Intelligence officer, that they all trust, as his secret apprentice and her Darth title. He reveals that he was Palpatine's secret apprentice up to right before the events of the Battle of Endor, and that with the Council's skills and resources, they are going to secretly build an unprecedented Neo-Sith Galactic Empire (with similarities to the one encountered by Old Republic). There will be many Sith disciples, but only two Darth's (Master and apprentice/heir).

Well, they've said the ST will not be an adaptation of any of the novels, so that rules the Thrawn Trilogy out.
