Ah yes - Lucas' desire to have everything rhyme...

I thought the Emperor change in Empire was a must.

As for the Noo, whatever. I like how conflicted it sounds, at least.

i don't really care to be honest, it doesn't really affect the story.

If the "no" was in the original and then they removed it everybody would be angry about it, its such a minor thing

As one who defends Vader's "NOOOOOOOOOOO!" at the end of RotS, I detest the change to RotJ. What was wrong with the original? Nothing!

I've said it before and I will say it again, that scene was the single greatest moment in the entire saga. The beauty was feeling Vader's emotional conflict through music and visuals. Adding words just ruins the moment, in my opinion. Sure, it's still a wonderful scene, but it loses value.

What's really sad, though, is when I watch any other version of RotJ, I'm expecting the "No... NOOO!" and the scene feels empty without it... Really?!

It's not a minor thing when a change completely changes the tone and ruins the scene for some.

How can anyone honestly believe it changes nothing? [face_thinking]

Because Vader still throws the Emperor down the shaft and saves Luke? Because Vader still turns from the dark side? Because the end result of the film is the same?

If it changes nothing, why did Lucas bother changing it?

*shrugs* I don't see it. The tone has remained the same for me, whether Vader says "No" or not.

As I've said many times it's a matter of perception. For some it affects the tone for others it doesn't.

And that's fair, but the attitude of "I don't know how anyone can't see how it changes the scene" is equally problematic. Obviously there are plenty here who just don't give a crap about "No" being added, and it doesn't make them obtuse.

You're the kind of person I like whether I agree or disagree. You can actually accept different opinions and points of view! I don't understand why some fans insist their way is the only way when there really is no right or wrong

The same is so for those of us for which it does affect a shift. I find most arguments over perception really are blown out of proportion and it makes me sad that very few seem to listen to differing views.

Much appreciated, Seagoat. I have strong views but I love listening and learning. I just wish more people actually really discussed things rather than instantly argue their way is the only way. It makes me very wary to post much as I dislike conflict highly.

well the fact he says noo twice makes Palpatine look like an idiot, you'd think audio clues would give him a clue that something was amiss, unless it was internal and he didn't vocally say anything, but then you'd ask to ask yourself why did Lucas bother.

No, I didn't like it. Actions speak louder than words, and clearly it wasn't necessary. I think Lucas did it because he had Vader do it at the end of ROTS, and maybe in some strange way it matches for him. It didn't add anything to the film, so why bother.

Who would've thought that the actions of one man could cause such a profound divide between Star Wars fans?

That's in interesting angle, making the Emperor look foolish by Vader hollering 'no' right next to him. In his old Sidious days, the Emperor would have realized Vader was the true threat and done away with him before turning on Luke. Remember, he has also just learned that Leia is Vader's daughter. That's the out Palps needed to get rid of both his broken apprentice and a young Jedi who refuses to turn. He had another alternative.

Part of the reason why the 'no' alters the scene because it is a total and complete surprise to the Emperor when Vader attacks. The audience doesn't need it spelled out for them- which is part of the crux of the SE additions anyway.
