So apparently its possible to like a post in a locked thread

I just got an alert that said a user had liked my post. Ok, no big whoop. But it was it was the Wisegate thread that was ten years ago and its locked. How is that possible?

All of you guys that are telling the mods to give it up should realize what is next. Do you honestly believe that the owners will force us users to give our personal info out so to sell to advertisers. And all top of it. We will be getting constant pop ups and all of our info will be capable of being stolen. I mean really this is becoming like Farenheit 450. It was February 28,2004


That was the comment. Ironically the user was looking thru it for some odd reason and came upon my post. Sadly it seems I actually predicted facebook's rise to power and the target hack. Weird.

 

Locking a thread only prevents further posts in that thread. It does not prevent people from being amused by pre-existing posts in that thread. Only deleting the thread outright would prevent that.

In other words, I see no problem with allowing posts in locked threads to be liked.

 

Why shouldn't this be allowed?

The majority of all locks are not for bad conduct, but simply because the thread has gotten too old. If something was fun, acceptable, and perfectly safe, I see no reason why people should be prevented from expressing their enjoyment.

 

Can't you just be happy your likes increased in total by 0.645% rather than complaining about it?

 

Are you suggesting we do anything about it (not possible) or just sharing a factoid, beezel26?

 

This is a highly important issue that deserves the utmost attention.

 

I'm gonna make a note to like this thread ten years from now.

 

you know, a like doesn't really change much, beez. you still wrote what you wrote and people will still read it. basically, what you're doing now is drawing more attention to your comment

But realistically, locked doesn't mean purged... basically means the opposite.

 

We actually did mean to do away with old stuff, but it turns out threads don't burn at 450 degrees Fahrenheit either. So close.
