Yoda and R2D2

Hello everyone,

For those of you who haven't see the Star Wars YouTube channel had posted a preview of the Yoda arc from The Clone Wars Season 6. Yoda travel's to Dagobah with none other than R2D2. Which brings me to my question, apologise if this has been asked already i am new to this.

Why did Yoda not remember R2D2 when they met on Dagobah 20 years later?

If Yoda and Artoo parted on bad terms, it might explain why Artoo tries to grab the lamp off Yoda, and Yoda responds by thumping him.

 

Good answer, would be interesting to see what happens between them in the Yoda arc. I hope your right. Something where Yoda lands in the swamp?

 

Yoda and Artoo recognize each other, but like with Obi-wan earlier on, didn't speak about it. Artoo just didn't understand why Yoda was acting like he was crazy around Luke.

Source is in TESB, when Artoo tries to grab the lamp from Yoda and they get into a struggle over it. Followed later on by Artoo's moans, while watching the two of them in the hovel.

 

On the contrary. It never states that. Instead, given R2's brains and the fact his memory was never ereased, that he knew what the Jedi were about and the entire history of the fall of the Republic, he simply played along with Yoda's shenanigans.

Of course, we do not know what will happen in the next animated tv show. it is possible R2 gets a memory wipe.

 

That would be terrible.

 

Twenty three years is a long time between meetings. A lot can happen.

Yeah, this is probably one for SWTV (I don't recall Yoda & Artoo having much interaction in the PT, or it'd be a Saga topic).

Moving to Star Wars TV from Classic Trilogy.

 

I think R2 was simply defending Luke's property. Juat because R2 knew who Yoda was doesn't mean that he agreed with all of Yoda's tactics.

 

I would think that R2 had a memory wipe at some point, if not entirely, then partially, to eliminate the liability of the droid being captured, being analyzed, and revealing information about Bail, Obi-Wan, Yoda, the birth of Padme and Anakin's kids, etc.

R2 always struck me as child-like. When he gets scolded or treated poorly by C3PO, he seems to let out a little regretful moan, like he's sad. But he's also stubborn and will do things on his own initiative, when he knows that he can help.

And just little things like when he asks Luke if he'd like to switch over to autopilot when Luke is trying to go to Dagobah, which kind of implies that he doesn't want to go there and thinks there's something wrong with Luke for deciding to go there. If he was aware Yoda was there or knew who Yoda was when they got there, I can't see him just playing along nor trying to sabotage Luke in switching to autopilot and navigating him back to the fleet. I would think he would be one to blurt out (in beeps and whistles) "hey, I know you!" upon meeting Yoda.

But on the other hand, Yoda does not want to call attention to the fact that he knows R2, since that would defeat the point of maintaining the facade that he is not Yoda, but a simple creature that is familiar with Yoda and will take Luke to him.

But no, I don't think Yoda had a "falling out" with a droid.

 

Bail Organa specifically asks for Threepio to receive a mindwipe at the end of RoTS - but doesn't mention Artoo.

Maybe he thinks Artoo's better at keeping secrets?

 

At the end of the Cave scene in ESB, R2D2 seems to be saying something to Yoda. To which Yoda "Hmphs," and nods a bit before looking down. Perhaps that little exchange is in reference to something from the Yoda Arc?

 

At the beginning of the cave scene in ESB, Artoo is freaking out, would make sense given he might know what can happen in the cave.
