Double-posting because this is a completely unrelated question: what's the species and real name of the character most of us know as "Yak Face"?

They are known as the "Yarkora." It sounds somewhat similar to Yak.

If the chosen one prophecy was about Anakin bringing balance to the force, by removing the dark side of the force how come there is still Sith in the galaxy?

Are you talking about the EU with Lumiya, Caedus, Krayt, etc? Poor writing.

In the case of Lumiya - she was first written as an antagonist in Marvel SW - long before the writers had any reason to believe there was a Prophesy Of The Chosen One in the first place.

So - "poor writing" is not to blame.

No, it's still poor writing to bring in another Sith after Vader supposedly destroyed the last ones.

The point I'm making is, at the time Marvel SW was written, there was no concept of "Vader destroyed the last Sith".

Even if that was true, what's to stop some other Jedi or Force user from finding some Sith Artifacts and restarting another Sith Sect all over again?

Which is more or less how the Sith got restarted later in the EU.

...it's kind of like saying you destroyed the dark because you turned on all the lights. Not being a smart@$$; just saying - like Darthbane2007 said.

You cannot "kill all the Sith" (or Jedi for that matter); "Sith Purebloods" are the only true "Sith species" or am I wrong? The Sith is a chosen way of being and has nothing to do with species, so all anyone who is Force sensitive has to do is come across Sith holocrons or teachings and accept that as their chosen way of being and thus continues/reestablishes the Sith. Same would go for Jedi - The Force cannot be destroyed, "....it is in all living beings, it fills us, surrounds us and binds us..." (paraphrasing). Kill all you want - Jedi or SIth....but you cannot "get rid of" either. All this is of course IMHO.

...which is why the prophecy of the Chosen One makes no sense.

Really doesn't, since Sith have existed for thousands of generations before Anakin, and will likely exist after him...

The prophecy never said "the Force will forever be in balance", it just said that he would balance it. No one said the scales couldn't tip again

    Yeah, we do.

In the time of greatest despair, a child shall be born who will destroy the Sith and bring balance to the Force.

That's purely EU, concocted from vague references in PT dialogue and the old 'Son of Suns' prophecy from the 1970s drafts of SW. I'd be gobsmacked if GL himself had anything to do with it.

You know, I wish the audience could have been told at some point in the PT just exactly what this prophecy was, who said it, how long it's been around, and why Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan are so damn sure about it but Yoda & Mace were having second thoughts. More importantly, how Palpatine embraces the Chosen One given the nature of the prophecy instead of being absolutely terrified of it and what Anakin is supposedly destined to do.

And what's the OT spin on it (since this is the CT forum)? Is Luke part of this prophecy? It seems after Palpatine takes control, this prophecy is no longer a concern and is forgotten completely.

As I understand it, GL has stated definitively that Luke is not the Chosen One, and the 'Son of Suns' prophecy has nothing to do with it, either (the EU has used it for some minor, unrelated character).

This is getting into PT or Saga territory, but my own take on the prophecy of the Chosen One is that it's an ethereal, mystical MacGuffin - the specifics aren't important, it just keeps the plot moving along, although in this case it applies to meaning, rather than motivation.

I think there's a clear EU reason why there can be Sith or other dark-siders after the Vader gets rid of Palpatine and then dies. At least within the EU, it seems pretty clear that Anakin is created to fix the imbalance created by Palpatine and Plagueis when they tried to impose their will on the Force and do other "unnatural" acts. So, the existence of the Sith by themselves doesn't create the imbalance. Instead, it is the existence of this particular Sith lineage that unbalanced the Force that must be eliminated. Once Palpatine's and Plagueis's lineage is wiped out by Vader in ROTJ, then the Force regains its balance. This makes it possible for other Sith or other dark-siders to appear after ROTJ since those evil-guys had nothing to do with that specific unbalancing of the Force.

So, within the EU, it makes perfect sense. The bigger problem is for the films. If the EU-explanation is used brought up in the new films to explain the meaning of the Chosen One prophecy, then there can be more Sith and it wouldn't seem weird. Anakin has killed off the Sith lineage that has attempted to warp the Force, and presumably warping the Force is a pretty bad thing, and so, that makes what Anakin does in ROTJ very important.

However, if you go by what has been said in the films, then it seems much more like Anakin is meant to destroy the Sith forever (or at least for a long period of time), or the whole Chosen One prophecy ends up seeming pretty lame. I mean, what makes the Chosen One so great if the Sith can return a decade or maybe even just a year after Anakin has destroyed them?

So, I think if the Sith return in Ep 7, then the films need to expand on the meaning of the Chosen One prophecy or at least establish the EU explanation as the highest level of canon, or the return of the Sith in the following episodes will probably seem pretty weird to anyone who thinks about it.

Why did the Alliance give the Death Star plans to Leia for her to carry on a luxury cruiser? The plans were the most vital object the Alliance had ever claimed. Wasn't their method of transporting it lacking in discretion, speed as well as protection?

Leia wanted to use her diplomatic immunity to sneak through the Empire and deliver the plans herself.

I see, that seems rather silly though as her diplomatic immunity probably meant next to nothing to the Empire.

According to EU, diplomatic immunity had worked for her in the past. But when the stakes were raised by her holding the DS plans, and when Vader took a personal hand in the matter, he used his power to override her immunity.
