As I've said elsewhere and often, He was my favorite EU author, who created rousing stories and clever plots, managed to write the most realistic EU characters I read without heading into ALL JEDI ALL THE TIME territory, and discussed the realities of loss without delving too deeply into angst.

He also wrote the best Wedge. (Sorry Mr. Stackpole)

Starfighters of Adumar will always be my favorite SW EU book, but Mercy Kill was one hell of a last hurrah.

    End of an era.

    Yub, Yub, Commander.

I must admit that I deeply enjoyed all his books in the X-wing series. Especially what he did with a disjointed group of pilots and made them a true fighting, joking, laughing, force of a family at the end of the book. They were not mere static characters but had great depth. He will be missed, but his creations will always be cherished.

Yup. I have this problem. Adding EU ships in the (hopefully not cancelled) upcoming wave doesn't help :)

The child in the TIE pilot uniform is adorable! And I kinda like the Death Star suddenly in place of the bookshelf.

Yes, indeed, Wedge and Luke and a few others were playing escort to Han and Leia, and that's when that scene happened (from what I've heard; haven't actually read the book yet).

Curious to know how it is. I've been debating about getting the audiobook after hearing the snippet that David Collins and Jimmy Mac put together, it sounds good.

Nothing earthshattering in the first 40 pages. Hopefully I will get to read more this weekend.

I just realized something, guys! We're surviving the canon apocalypse a lot better than most of the other fan groups. Not only is Wedge Antilles still canon, but so are Hobbie and Janson! The only problem is, technically speaking, Hobbie's canonical name is just "Hobbie" and Derek Klivian doesn't exist, while Janson is just "Janson" with no first name. But hey, they both appeared in the movies (with speaking roles, even!) so we're getting out of this fairly clean. I'm not sure about Tycho, unfortunately. He technically does appear in ROTJ, but I'm not sure that's still him, since he's never called by name. But let's just go with it. :p

THE AMAZING JANSON WILL ALWAYS BE CANON (whether they agree with me or not.) That is all. :p I really want to see his cape of himself high kicking from Starfighters of Adumar though. That would be cool. :D

I can honestly say the X-wing series is what hooked me on the EU. I kept reading other trilogies/books/series hoping they would live up to them and none ever did.

My guess would be that they just never bring up Tycho, Janson or Hobbie again. So their stories are safe. However if they did and their stories changed they would have stories and that wouldn't be bad in my mind either...[face_thinking]
