Isn't it taking place in America? Why shouldn't there be a magical Granger there?

i guess a distant relative would be okay. for me it would take away some part of what's special about being muggle-born if there was a witch in her direct family lineage.

The magic in her had to come from somewhere. Since the story takes place in NYC, Hermione and the new Granger might not even be related.

It's not entirely like the Hobbit/PT because unlike those, the FB trilogy doesn't have any ties to Harry and his saga at all. So perhaps that's why there's even this talk of having one of the characters from the last series in this.

An adult Hermione could be using an advanced Time Turner, who knows.

No, it doesn't. That's exactly what it means to be Muggle-born.

Might have gotten it from fan-fic so I could be wrong but wouldn't a family have to have magic at one point but then have a squib and then it pops up generations later? Then who knows what happens with cousins marrying each other to stay 'pure'.

As seen with the Gaunts, Blacks and Lestranges, they go Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, part of a Mudblood breakfast.

All of the Ministry's Time Turners were smashed during the kids' adventures in the Department of Mysteries. I suppose they could have made more, but JKR said that she wrote that scene in there so she wouldn't have to deal with more time travel headaches in future novels.

Another possible workaround they can do is have the prologue of the movie starting with Newt graduating from Hogwarts. Would showcase the setting the masses are familiar with, and could even have a younger version of Dumbledore.

lol I don't think that really works. Pandora doesn't go back in the box.

The whole point of the Time Turner in POA was because Harry literally needed to be in two places at once, at the end of the book.

You can't go forward in time with Time Turners right?

They have only been used to go to the past and that seems to be their only function. Being able to see the future would ruin the careers of all the prophecy makers (and would perhaps go against Dumbledore's Free Will lesson).

And their usage in "changing the past" is limited. You can only save someone if the future you already saved them. There's only one timeline. Saving Dumbledore would be impossible because his death was observed.

So JK has started the 2014 QWC stuff on Pottermore, and the Daily Prophet shop in the back portion of Diagon Alley opened. It's rather cool and cute that instead of just writing simple reports, she's having one of the actual characters do the reporting:

Two reports have have been given so far, one about the "opening ceremony"
it was disastrous because of out-of-control mascots
, and one about the first match with Norway VS Ivory Coast
    Norway wins 340-100
    .

"Prisoner of Azkaban" is my second fave in the series after "Sorcerer's Stone", so I'd probably go to see the new one if he directed it. I've never read the book though, so I'd be relying strictly on the film for a sensible story.

My level of excitement for this film(s) has gone from "nonexistent" to "mildly interested". CuarĂ³n could actually make it work...

Cuaron's HP movie is indeed the only one of the series with any soul, not that I believe in souls, mind you, but if I did, mine would have a unicorn hair core.
