IIRC, they drowned in a boating accident.

Frodo and Bilbo are actually distant cousins. Bilbo's grandfather Mungo and Frodo's great-grandfather Largo were brothers.
They're more closely related on their mothers' side. Bilbo's mother, Belladonna Took, was sister to Frodo's grandmother Mirabella. Their older brother was Hildigrim Took, grandfather of Merry and Pippin. :-B

And yes, Frodo's parents died in a boating accident. They would have been alive during the events of the Hobbit, so we may see them. They may already have been in the marketplace scenes cut from AUJ.

Of course, given that Jackson's team decided to make Óin and Glóin (and therefore Gimli!) not of the line of Durin, pretty much anything is possible, family-tree-wise. :p

Huh? I thought all the dwarves were supposed to represent that line.

It was in the booklet accompanying some deluxe edition of AUJ. I don't have it myself, but I do remember it saying that Óin and Glóin were not of Durin's line, and I remember being flabbergasted at the implications for Gimli. I can't remember if the same was said of Balin and Dwalin.

Even according to Tolkien, not all of the dwarves were of Durin's line: Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur were not, though they were of the (non-noble) folk of Moria.

And then he became the Train Master, and later he flew off to Utapau.

Yes but will X-XII disregard the EU The Silmarrilion?

I watched the EE extras of AUJ and I'm pretty sure it said the only Dwarves not of the line of Durin were Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur. I think it said Oin and Gloin were distantly related.

I'd argue that HBP might be the worst. But POA is down there as well.

A sign of a good movie adaptation isn't how closely one sticks to the source material, but how one adapts the story to better fit a visual medium. POA succeeded at this. SS and COS did not.

We'll have to agree to disagree, PoA is on my list of films never to watch again, and it's not because I dislike Harry Potter.

None of the Harry Potter films are great adaptations or great movies (though I haven't seen the last two). The Columbus films were boring, but PoA was filled with glaring plot holes... and other things I don't remember because I last saw it when it came out.

The tone, the visuals etc were were so different from SS/COS that POA feels jarring.
Snape was awesome though. Sirius, Remus and Snape in the Shack were pretty funny.
