    Currently on Chapter 14 of The Silmarillion, I think it will take a second reading to understand most of the book.

    QFT. It's worth the effort. And IMO you've made it through most of the tough parts to read, and it gets better as you go.

    Princeps' Fury, book 5/6 of Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series.

    Aka "What if there was an AU fantasy Rome ruled by Avataresque Benders?". :p

    I don't know if the books are meant to be "young adult", but that's how they feel. Still, I've really liked them. They're rather predictable, I think -- but in a very enjoyable way. And I've read so much stuff that deconstructs the fantasy genre that it's nice to go back to something that seems (so far, at least!) to have been playing more of the tropes fairly straight.

    I'm also reading Pooh and the Philosophers.

    I've heard that elsewhere too, so far the only part that really sticks with me is when Morgoth is being attacked by by Ungoliant...thought that was pretty cool.

    Jedi Ben that sucks! The illos on the inside are quite lovely.

    Alison Weir is high on my reading list. I've heard a lot of good things about her! And The Other Boleyn Girl is fantastic.

    JediYvette I'm glad you're enjoying it! I'm waiting for my copy to come in to the library.

    Samuel Elliot Morrison's History of US Naval Operations in WW2, vol 1. Based mostly on research and personal observations gathered firsthand by the author at sea during the war, it has an immediacy that eclipses the lack of perspective that comes from writing it so soon after the events. There are some dry spells, but overall it is surprisingly lively and entertaining to read. Highly recommended to those of us who are into that sort of thing.

    For anyone who has read The Three Musketeers, Twenty Years After, and the Vicomte de Bragelonne, are there good editions that don't leave any of the story out? I have the Penguin Classics edition of TTM and intend to buy the other two, but I don't want to risk buying an edition that leaves important parts of the story out. (Already had that happen with The Count of Monte Cristo and it took me years to realize I had an abridged edition.)

    If you buy the Oxford World's Classics versions you should be okay, though they publish Le Vicomte de Bragelonne as three books. The translations aren't a revelation, but they're accurate and readable. The end notes are peppered with spoilers so beware of them, I guess.

    I actually really didn't like the movie. I highly recommend the book if you haven't read it, though!

    Working my way through Ally Condie's Matched trilogy and am not really enjoying it (just into it enough to want to know what happens). I think I need a break from the totalitarian future earth YA stuff; I seem to be reading a lot of it lately 8-}
