Personally for me its PT>SE OT>OOT (I haven't even seen them and I don't really feel like I need to).

I definitely fall into that "diverse opinion" group

Empire is my favourite by a long way. 2-5 are all very close. For example, I think Jedi has some of the saga's best moments. Clones is a distant last IMO. For some reason, I found that ROTS made TOM better, but Clones hasn't aged well.

I have to say this changes for me over time, but usually the top three are always the same – here they are:

1. III (always been my favorite – also my favorite movie of all time. It embodies all that I love about the PT, but includes many elements that I love about the OT as well- and basically defines the word epic!)

2. V (IMO this one is the one that matches up closest to the prequels in overall tone, scope and visuals.)

3. VI (this one used to be towards the bottom, but now knowing that it's not meant to be the finale to the saga, that really changed my view towards it and I have come to really enjoy it much more!)

4. II. (I know, I know – it's not popular really on this thread. But I have always enjoyed this one. even though the love scenes are weak the planets/environments and action scenes are awesome! I loved seeing an army of Jedi go to battle with an army of Droids...)

5. IV (after seeing the Blu-ray version, my appreciation for this one has gone up a little – yes from the bottom. Sorry. It now seems to fit a lot more visually audibly and quality-wise with the rest of the saga; as a "saga fan," that is important to me-as you may have guessed already from what you've read on this post.)

6. I (this one isn't always at the bottom, but after hearing about the ST, my enjoyment of the OT has increased a bit, which has lately put them higher on my list. TPM has some of the best lightsaber choreography I've seen, and the Podrace sequence is incredible; "worthy of recognition in the Star Wars archives," but unfortunately that's just not enough to counteract what is ultimately a somewhat tedious story.)

If it wasn't already obvious, I am an equal fan of the saga as a WHOLE, rather than thinking of Star Wars as separate trilogies. this is where I stand I guess...


I just realized, after VII, VIII and IX have come out, this list will take on a whole different look-with the new episodes intermixed. For all I know, I might find one of the episodes in the ST to be my new favorite!

I guess we'll just have to wait and see…

This was a lot harder than I thought, but here it is:

1. ROTS. It had a bit of Dooku, although not enough, and it really did set up the OT as well as anyone could've expected.
2. TPM. It's probably heresy to rank this over ESB, but here I am. I just like it more. I recognize it isn't as good as ESB, but I just like it more, especially with the EU. I mean, Maul in TCW? The Dark Horse comics set around it? It all is just so Star Wars.
3. ESB. The classic Star Wars film, and objectively it's probably the best. I think that the one shot you get of Boba Fett in the cockpit of Slave II as he prepares to run down Solo is one of the coolest shots in the entire Saga (Christopher Lee's face withstanding).
4. AOTC. Christopher Lee, Christopher Lee, Christopher Lee.
5. ANH. Can't believe I put the original beneath all 3 prequels. I should be flamed. But honestly, while a worthy progenitor for the series, I feel like ANH is just that: it establishes the world beautifully, and presents great characters, but on its own, it doesn't hold up.
6. ROTJ. I still enjoy ROTJ, mind you, but it's easily the weakest of the Saga.

 

I felel like adding explanations to my list.

1. Empire - Best integration of all the great Star Wars elements: Story telling, Music, Operatically dramatic moments, Visual beauty, and Characters.
2. Jedi - The throne room scenes and Vader's redemption are the best the saga has to offer.
3. Hope - Exciting storyline, though it's a little slow at the beginning and the effects, while groundbreaking, aren't as developed as the others.
4. Sith - Emotional flick containing the most influential events of the entire Saga. A lot of awkwardness though.
5. Menace - Great visual style, but tedious and plodding. Many moments intended to be dramatic just fall flat. Slightly ahead of Clones because it's position in the saga is not as central.
6. Clones - While perhaps more exciting than Menace, this is the weakest entry because it's story bears responsibility for showing the dramatic seeds planted in TPM and fails at doing so, IMO.

I have to ask...is that the 2003 Clone Wars, or TCW (the new one)?

 

I have to reply: the 2008-2014 series. But I like the micro series. I probably like it more than ESB ha ha ha!!!

I must ask: what is the appeal of seeing "opinions like this that go against the perceived mainstream of fandom"? I'm not suggesting there's something wrong with it, I just don't see what the special appeal is.
