The Serpentine Dragons in Skyrim are worse in that respect.

That's how he was described in the book

Um, no, it's not. Do you know what a wyvern is?
Also, all Tolkien's illustrations clearly show that he's not a wyvern. It was just a last-minute Jackson changeTM

Smaug has pretty much always been depicted as looking like a conventional Dragon:

    And of course most famously

And that's how he looked in AUJ before Jackson changed him. I just don't know why he did it, surely Smaug was fine looking like a regular Dragon.

Smaug was referred to as a worm in the book and they didn't turn into a Wyvern, they redesigned him to follow the description from the book, he was Wyvern type dragon but he was not a Wyvern

We didn't see what he looked like in AUJ.

He obviously had 4 legs in AUJ when he broke into Erebor. You can see when he stomps on the Dwarves
He certainly didn't have obvious arm-wings.

"Worm" is a pretty vague description, he could be described that way just by having a long tail and neck (as many Dragons tend to have in images). I've never seen anything to suggest Smaug ever looked like he did in DOS. It's not that he wasn't well done, but I was very surprised watching it and the whole time thinking "wait, has he got arm-wings?". I just expected him to look like any other Dragon, only superior CGI.

Actually, you do briefly see enough to know he was a four-limbed plus wings dragon in the theatrical release.
His forelimbs are clearly visible in the attack on Erebor, and have been rather clumsily edited in the extended release.

No. Wyverns have two legs and two wings, normal dragons have four legs and two wings. Tolkien draws Smaug with four legs and two wings, and he is never described as a wyvern. "Worm" just means dragon.

    Edit:ninja'd

In the Extended Edition of AUJ, Smaug was changed to have 2 legs and winged forearms

Which means they made a decision between movies to change what he looked like since they had to go back and edit him.

Never mind him being edited into the final battle of the five armies, he could be edited as the Witch King's ride in ROTK now. You would never know the difference :p

Seems most directors prefer 2 legs and winged forearms on a dragon than the 4 legs

Well it's probably more like a Dragon would appear in real-life since that is how the majority of flying animals (apart from insects) function.

Maybe since the screenwriter is obviously a heroin-addict, Smaug will become corrupted by Sauron and multiply into many Nazguls?

Smaug should get the Ring and become an invisible uber-dragon

    I just had a thought...

What would be utterly badass in the BOFA (the event, not the film as a whole - the title change will get a bit problematic this way, even if I'm personally of two minds on the matter) would be to have the triumphant reprise of the Misty Mountains song as the Dwarves are charging, preferably led by Thorin himself, first in English to give the gist of the song, then in Khuzdul to let the music speak as the fighting ramps up. It would be amazing, especially if Thorin does come out in "the armour of all armour", as Armitage himself said.

    Lauré :)

From what I read, the Witch King will be featured in the third film

I'm JUST NOW understanding that you're arguing about Smaug being a quadriped vs. a hexoped.

You know that scene in Temple of Doom where Indy encounters two swordsmen and reaches for his gun to shoot them like he did to that one guy in Raiders? Now imagine six hours of scenes in the same vein.
