I'll keep saying it. Legends doesn't necessarily mean non-canon. It means a different continuity, technically an AU but without any time travel stuff.

    Same practical difference.

The important thing about canon is not how real it is, since it is all just fiction in the end, but how likely it is to be used again.

Admittedly, the new canon stuff is free to use legends materials except where it interferes with the new movies, but they are just as free to contradict it as well (though it is not like there not contradictions before.)

I still stand by my idea that the two types of meterial can coexist mostly harmlessly, and I've confirmed it personally with a grand readthrough of much of the material at the same time I watched the show, but I will no longer attempt to manage it beyond what I have already done.

For me, the issue is now closed and my time with this thread is over. I will leave up the timeline I put out for those of you who choose to use it, and I will let the rest of you pick and choose as you like. I just hope what was accomplished here serves as a model to keep at least some of what we loved before the EU Purge/Order 666. But in the end, to each his own.

Goodbye people, it's been fun. If I come back, it'll mostly be for discussion of Sons of Dathomir, but that's probably it.

This should be the most up to date version based on previous critiques since the last time I posted. Minor stuff like switching around a few LoE chapters, and adding a few small short stories I missed. I doubt I'll post another revision for a long while though if at all. I don't think I'll be able to even find the clone wars UK comics, and there's probably not gonna be much new material to even add to the timeline in the future. Have fun, all.

*Obsession is perhaps the single toughest issue to tackle in the entire new timeline, due to it being the original ending story for both Ventress and Adi Gallia, both of whom have seemingly had their fates changed by TCW. Officially, Chee said that it is not Adi's final canon death nor the canon end of Ventress' story. After debating what to do about this story for 3 years, I have stumbled upon what I believe to be the best possible solution. Obsession occurs between seasons 3 and 4, after Ventress leaves Dooku, but before she begins bounty hunting. Dooku secretly recaptures her and brainwashes her. Anakin assumed her dead because of the chaos in their last fight in Witches of the Mist. Adi is wounded by Grievous, but survives this fight. After faking her death, Ventress escapes and eventually returns to the Nightsisters. Because she never works with Dooku again after Obsession, the original intent of the story (her escape from the war, and from Dooku) is preserved, while the story can still happen before Adi dies. Ultimately, her fate can be decided by future canon without contradiction, if ever.

**Originally, I was going to have Boba Fett books 2-3 occur before TCW, but it turns out there is a source which claims Boba's escape from Bespin is roughly the same time as the TCW film. As a result, I am moving his escape ahead while keeping the rest of the book 2's events earlier. Books 3 and 4 now occur shortly before the events of the first Boba arc. Putting aside their differences, and having now gained Jabba's respect, Boba Fett decided to work together with Aura Sing after book #3 and 4, sometime after recovering Slave I from her, leading to the first Boba Fett s2 arc. Boba later loses it again in TCW to Hondo, but recovers it in an unknown story after s5, before Book #5. The helmet that was destroyed in his first arc was one of many. He remains in prison for quite some until the Rako Hardeen Arc. Shortly after escaping, he returns to working for Jabba the Hutt. He becomes a full time bounty hunter by the time we get to the s4 finale arc. Books 5-6 can occur in 19BBY as they were originally intended, sometime after the events of Season 5.

***The Lost One presented us with some rather unique problems that needed to be resolved after certain conversations in the EU. In LoE Chapter 11, Yoda and Obiwan had not yet learned that Tyranus was Dooku, yet it is discovered in this episode. In that chapter, they have an extensive conversation about Sifo-Dyas, the mysterious nature of the clones, and the mystery of a man named Tyranus being behind it. In The Lost One, the Jedi learn that Dooku was in fact Tyranus, so events have been moved shortly after the Cato Nemoidia campaign chapters to ensure that LoE still makes sense. Furthermore, Finis Valorum is still alive in the episode. His death by an Anzat assassin was 'not' confirmed until Republic 73, so that story must still occur after the Yoda arc, along with the holonews entry about his memorial. It has been decided that while Valorum evaded his assassination in the exploding transport (original canon suggested he was never on that transport to begin with), his would be assassin did not in fact find Valorum immediately. The events are presented very vaguely in the issue, with Vos mentioning the shuttle exploding, and the Anzat taking out Valorum, but no details. Valorum succeeded in going underground for a time, until he later resurfaced back in Galactic City, where he was 'finally' taken out after Sidious decided he got a bit 'too' close to revealing bits about Sifo-Dyas, thereby pushing Sora Bulq's assassin to finish her hunt. These retcons account for both his survival, and the Jedi learning about Tyranus in this episode, and also push the Yoda arc closer to EP III due to the major revelations of this arc. Events of LoE as a whole now occur more gradually spread out over an extra 2 months. Finally, one must take some things into consideration when addressing the Sifo-Dyas timeline. The timeline of his death is implied to be before Palpatine became Chancellor, but since Valorum does not remember the exact timeline of events, it is reasonable to assume that the mission with the Pykes began under Valorum and ended shortly after episode I once Dooku left the order, betraying his friend to gain control of the clone order. Sifo-Dyas probably confided in Dooku, ordered the clones BEFORE his death (since the Kaminoans know Tyranus is not Sifo-Dyas), and Dooku THEN took over the operation and chose Jango Fett as the template AFTER killing Sifo-Dyas, leaving the events seen in Bounty Hunter intact. Dialogue within the episode allows for this to be possible, especially if you assume Palpatine merely denied having 'any' involvement with Sifo-Dyas (which was definitely a lie). Finally, the Seige of Saleucami still started 5 months before Republic 74, it was now just a longer ongoing campaign that Master Rancisis and Quinlan did not join for the first 3 or so months. A campaign at Saleucami was mentioned as beginning in the s5 fugitive arc, so we can now tie the two references together as the early stages of the Outer Rim Sieges and start of the battle.

****Leland Chee pretty much confirmed in a Q&A after a screening that Moraband is just another name for Korriban. Lucas is a silly man. We know. The world, however, is explicitly the same. Darth Bane appears to Yoda in an ashy unknown Sith armor, said to be just an illusion, which could explain him wearing never before seen armor. However, given that Bane died by being turned to ashes, it is always possible he 'does' still haunt the planet in some ways just as so many Sith have before him. Who knows what Yoda saw?

I know this question is probably moot since "officially" half of this timeline is probably "Legends", but is Obi-Wan ever explained as being removed from the High Council and then reinstated during the Clone Wars? In the microseries, he is obviously on the Council urging them to make Anakin a knight, which they do. But in the novel "The Clone Wars-Gambit: Stealth", which takes place after Anakin's knighting, Obi-Wan explicitly says that he's "not on the Council". Then he's back on it by ROTS. Strange.

Pretty sure the Clone Wars novels are also Legends now... or lets better say "Notorious"

The way I see it is that as Anakin's master he gets a say on if Anakin can be Knight and gets a seat for the meeting and gets to be one of the Jedi in the circle with the lightsabers at the end.
Don't remember if he said anything about Grievous though.

Just this thread and my attempts to mend TCW continuity. I've been reading it almost daily for at least 4-5 years now. Even if the EU purge is my least wanted outcome, I doubt I can just walk away from the fandom that easily.

That, and there's not much more I need to do now. You're a smart lot.

I've been thinking about The Clone Wars era again the last couple of days, and I've realized that many of us (myself included) were likely making a mountain out of a molehill for the last six years.

The TV show changing already established facts about Mandalore, Maul's survival/background, ect. is annoying, don't get me wrong. But just how much has that effect spilled over to the novels and comics released from January 2008 to now, and how tightly wound is The Clone Wars now with the EU, actually? Is there a lot of specific detail in some cases, or just vague references. (Hint: I'm thinking Fate of the Jedi here).

From 2008 to now we've had published:

Dawn of the Jedi - three comic arcs & one novel
    Lost Tribe of the Sith
The Old Republic - four novels, three comic arcs, and one video game
    Red Harvest & Deathtroopers
Knights of the Old Republic (Zayne Carrick comics)
Knight Errant - three comic arcs & one novel
    Darth Plagueis
    Wrath of Darth Maul
Life and Legened of Obi-Wan Kenobi
    Lockdown
    Purge
Various The Clone Wars novels, comics, ect tied into the new TV show
the last two Republic/Imperial Commando novels
    Kenobi
    Coruscant Nights
    The Force Unleashed
    Rebellion
    Empire & Rebellion
    Invasion
    the last two LOTF novels
    Crosscurrent/Riptide
    Miilennium Falcon
    Fate of the Jedi
    Mercy Kill
    Crucible
    Legacy

According to the official site, the Moraband ghosts were illusions created by the Priestesses and the dark side.

Who knows what illusions are in SW, since they have physical impacts elsewhere in the show.

After a quick search of the Wook, it seems that the fans who have complained about Mortis being in FOTJ have blown it all out of proportion.

Abeloth is the Big One, yes, but she's not mentioned by name until Abyss and doesn't appear until Allies. Mortis itself is only mentioned in Apocalypse. The dagger is only mentioned in Apocalypse and Crucible. Ashoka Tano isn't even namedropped in any post-LOTF books.

For those of us who prefer the original Clone Wars timeline, why not just treat the mentions of Mortis and the hunt for the dagger in FOTJ as fallout from an unexplained and unchronicled mission that Anakin and Obi-Wan undertook during the Clone Wars and be done with it instead of griping?

My solution to dealing with Mortis is to drink and MST it. And read hilarious commentary from those who have done similar.

That solution works since brain bleach isn't an option.

After re-watching the Mortis episodes, I have to agree, qualified by the fact that the first episode is actually okay. It's a bit over-the-top and Avatar: The Last Airbender, yes, but it isn't really unwatchable, some of the dialogue is good and the foreshadowing isn't dumped on with a shovel. The second and third episodes, though, fully deserve the ridicule they get. If they'd just ended it after the first one, which they totally could have done, it wouldn't have been that bad. Once Obi-Wan has to get the Prince of Persia dagger, it all starts going downhill fast.

So everything starts out well on part one, and progressively gets worse through parts two and three...

That is not a good sign for Trilogy #3. :p

Jedi have a history of "filling in" for missing or dead council members temporarily before becoming permanent council members. This is mostly done to fix continuity problems like this one. :p Jedi Apprentice did this for an accidental appearance by Ki-Adi-Mundi--I'd say that's what happened to Obi-Wan here; it's more likely than having him be removed from the council and having to be reinstated.

Where did you find that on the official site? All I could find in the episode guide was this:

"Facing all that you fear will free you from yourself."
After many grueling trials, Yoda next travels to the ancient Sith home world of Moraband, where he must face an ancient evil determined to rule the galaxy.

I think it means that conjuring illusions is a power of the Dark Side, not that the Sith can retain any power after death.

Yeah, my guess was that the "Darth Bane" that Yoda encountered was rather like the "Darth Vader" Luke encountered on Dagobah. It's not his spirit so much as an echo, about as real as an interactive holocron (though Force-based, rather than technology based). An accurate depiction of the Dark Lord, no doubt, but one ultimately without substance.
