The 2 W's: Watto and Wedge

I really wish GL had placed Watto in Jar Jar's role. There's something I really like about Watto's personality. (Also, I can do a mean Watto impersonation!)

So in the scene where the Jedi use breathing devices to follow Jar Jar to the Gungan city under the swamp, they instead strap on jetpacks to follow Watto to the Toydarian casino in the sky? I like the way your mind works.

As for my most underrated character ... it's hard to even think of a Star Wars character as being underrated when every background mook has his own fan club ... I'll say Qui-Gon. He doesn't get enough credit for being a good teacher.

Probably Wedge or Zam Wessel. Zam was pretty much the one who started the kamino investigation which led to the discovery of the clone army by Obi Wan.

I was actually heading over to this thread to mention Zam myself! It's not so much that she's underrated based on what she actually does in the films - she does very little, people don't really care about her, and that's fair - but that there's so much untapped potential with her. She has pretty badass armor, she can CHANGE SHAPE, and if you read the few comics with her in them, you see she's actually pretty morally ambiguous. So with Zam, I think it's more of a lost opportunity.

She would've worked SO well as a recurring villain! It's really a pity she wasn't used. Also, it's the first time you see a bounty hunter really in action; Boba Fett does not count. He just doesn't.

Agreed. Zam could've been used as a villain in TCW or something like that.

Hey, Qui-Gon and Watto could have earned the fortune needed to repair the Padme's Nubian Transport in 15 minutes if he used his Force dice trick to rack up the winnings in a Toydarian casino!

I always get a kick out of people who complain about Anakin being younger in the PT. The minute Anakin and Vader became one character, the whole notion of an older Anakin ceased to exist.

Anakin and Vader were always the same person in the Saga. He is def older in RotJ than in TPM but I wouldn't call him old just worn like Obi was.

They were not the same character during the development process of ANH.

The most underrated character I would argue is Lando Calrissian. He helped destroy the Second Death Star!

Piett has to be my favorite underrated character. Anyone competent enough to not get force choked by Vader is okay in my book.

Bail Organa's actions throughout The Clone Wars and during Revenge of the Sith make him the best senator the Galactic Republic could ask for.

I believe she meant in-universe. IE despite being on the dark side, there was still good in him, as was proven in the end

This is a really hard question, but I lean strongly towards Grand Moff Tarkin. He is arguably a more significant character than Vader in ANH, but he's been basically overlooked by most of the fanbase (and EU, for that matter) because Vader wound up being so important to the Saga as a whole.

Grand Moff Tarkin: He is the main antagonist of A New Hope along with Darth Vader. Heck, he even has some authority over Darth Vader.

Definitely! I wish we could have seen more of Bossk.

My overall, underrated characters are as follows:

    1. Lando. Seriously, I love the guy. He might just be my favorite character.

    2. Qui-gonn. My love for Liam neeson is strong!

    3. Ki-Adi Mundi. He seemed to be a fantastic Jedi. A spin off for him would have been cool.

    4. Nien Nub. So, basically he was Lando's Chewbacca, but hey, he was cool!

    5. Chewbacca. One of my all time favorites, such a tough guy, but such a softie too. He never was given enough material in the EU. Hopefully 7 deals more with him. He's a fascinating character!

Not necessarily. There was a huge long thread about this (maybe even multiple ones) a few years ago. Short version is that there were two options in combining "young Jedi" Vader and the (seemingly older) Annikin who was already a hero pilot when Red Leader encountered him as a boy (as in the script and cut hangar scene): make the combined Anakin have Vader's age and fudge some things or make him have Annikin's age and fudge other things. From ROTJ, it seems like Lucas had given him Annikin's age (making the age disparity between Ben and Anakin, in the prequels, something like Han and Luke's in the OT). When he actually made the prequels, he re-aged those characters in a different way. Nothing wrong with this, of course. It just seems like maybe he used different methods at different times.
