Here's another way of thinking about it.

Until Friday (pre-Legends):

Ansion was a planet in the Mid Rim near Vortex and Bilbringi, located on the Namadii Corridor.

Discovered sometime after 3,000 BBY and before theGalactic Republic's Ruusan Reformation,[6] the world joined the Galactic Senate and maintained a relatively humble existence within the government. Seemingly unimportant, the world helped found the Malarian Alliance in 42 BBY, alongside Dbari, Malari and Mamendin, which secured Ansion's trade and security. Later, it signed the Keitumite Mutual Military Treaty, tying the planet to Keitum, Mondress, Lonnaw, Dorin, Eeropha, and Glom Tho. Represented in the Senate by Senator Mousul during the Separatist Crisis, Ansion was being eyed by Commerce Guild Presidente Shu Mai, for if it could be made to secede, the other worlds tied to it could also fall to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Inciting a border dispute between the Unity of Community government and the nomadic Alwari, Presidente Mai began to strain the world's relationship with the other signers of the treaty.[3]
Before the plot could unfold, the Jedi High Council dispatched Jedi Master Luminara Unduli,Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, and their Padawans Barriss Offee and Anakin Skywalker tonegotiate peace. The Separatists hired local Bossban Soergg the Hutt to help induce riots and conflict between the Ansari and the Unity Council, but when the Jedi appeared he was forced to turn to more brutal techniques. Hiring thugs to track the Jedi, his men harried the four peacekeepers into the foothills, where they found shelter among the native tribesmen. Eventually the Jedi were able to restore peace between both nations and the Unity Council voted to remain with the Republic. Padawan Offee confronted Soergg the Hutt with evidence that he was connected with the Separatists, but all evidence was circumstantial and no charges were brought against him.[3]
Joining the Galactic Empire following its rise from the ashes of the Republic, Emperor Palpatine appointed a Moff who dissolved all existing treaties and alliances, guaranteeing that a threat to Imperial security could not arise amongst the obscure worlds. Taken byGrand Admiral Mitth'raw'nuruodo during his northern campaign, the world was overrun by theYuuzhan Vong during the Yuuzhan Vong War and its inhabitants enslaved. Freed by theImperial Remnant in 29 ABY, the world remained in Imperial space throughout the Second Galactic Civil War.[2]
Geography and wildlifeEdit
Domesticated animals roamed Ansion.
Ansion was a world of rolling plains,[2]grassy fields, and wide valleys. Due to the high winds that swept the planet's surface, the extensive animal life on the world adapted to ride the winds or withstand it on the ground. Mammals such as the mountable suubatar and sadain, the domesticated surepp, the enormous lorqual and the predatory shanh, were all built with thick hides and strong legs to propel them along the windswept grasslands. The avian ongun-nur adapted to the skies with large wings, allowing it to ride the air currents with ease. Other bizarre creatures include the water-dwelling community-minded gairk, which captured unwitting victims by working in succinct with other members of its species. The kyren swarms were known to darken the skies over the valleys, as they moved about the world.[3]
Plant life on the world was largely limited to low-standing shrubs and grasses, though there were small stands of trees dotting the landscape. A uniquely adapted creature was the tumbleweed-like plant called the Chawix, which used its many spiky growths to impale its prey as the wind carried it. Aside from the plains, volcanic vents often times opened up on the surface, billowing ash and smoke into the sky.[3]

Dp4m -- you forgot that there is at least one nest of gundarks (whatever those are -- something Luke may have been able to pull arms off of) on Ansion, though it is unclear if it is a metaphorical or literal nest.

I'm not entirely certain we can extrapolate from AOTC that the "nest of gundarks" incident took place in the Ansion mission. More like:

"At some point in their relationship, Obi-Wan fell into a nest of gundarks and was rescued by Anakin."

The old system gave the labeling of people, races and objects in the movies G-canon status - I doubt that will change.

Nope. Different adventure. According to "Dooku Captured," gundarks are only found on Vanqor (or at least, as far as Anakin knows).

You should watch the episode. Gives a whole new meaning to Han's turn of phrase.

Canon levels were (With the recent announcements, I believe they are not in use anymore) different ways of distinguishing the 'canonicity' of things.
Here are the different levels from wookieepedia:

G-canon is George Lucas Canon; the six Episodes and any statements by George Lucas (including unpublished production notes from him or his production department that are never seen by the public). Elements originating with Lucas in the movie novelizations, reference books, and other sources are also G-canon, though anything created by the authors of those sources is C-canon. When the matter of changes between movie versions arises, the most recently released editions are deemed superior to older ones, as they correct mistakes, improve consistency between the two trilogies, and express Lucas's current vision of the Star Wars universe most closely. The deleted scenes included on the DVDs are also considered G-canon (when they're not in conflict with the movie).

T-canon, or Television Canon, refers to the canon level comprising the feature film Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the two television shows Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the Star Wars live-action TV series. It was devised recently in order to define a status above the C-Level canon, as confirmed by Chee.

C-canon is Continuity Canon, consisting of all recent works (and many older works) released under the name of Star Wars: books, comics, games, cartoons, non-theatrical films, and more. Games are a special case, as generally only the stories are C-canon, while things like stats and gameplay may not be; they also offer non-canonical options to the player, such as choosing female gender for a canonically male character. C-canon elements have been known to appear in the movies, thus making them G-canon; examples include the name "Coruscant," swoop bikes, Quinlan Vos, Aayla Secura, YT-2400 freighters and Action VI transports.

S-canon is Secondary Canon; the materials are available to be used or ignored as needed by current authors. This includes mostly older works, such as much of the Marvel Star Wars comics, that predate a consistent effort to maintain continuity; it also contains certain elements of a few otherwise N-canon stories, and other things that "may not fit just right." Many formerly S-canon elements have been elevated to C-canon through their inclusion in more recent works by continuity-minded authors, while many other older works (such as The Han Solo Adventures) were accounted for in continuity from the start despite their age, and thus were always C-canon.

N is Non-Canon. What-if stories (such as stories published under the Infinities label) and anything else directly and irreconcilably contradicted by higher canon ends up here. N is the only level that is not considered canon by Lucasfilm. Information cut from canon, deleted scenes, or from canceled Star Wars works falls into this category as well, unless another canonical work references it and it is declared canon.

D is Detours Canon, used for material hailing from Star Wars Detours.

When I think of all this info lost, destroyed, I think of this scene....

I so wish Disney would have committed less "bloodshed" upon the EU. There is so much potential/greatness in the EU that it warranted at least some of it staying canon. The star wars universe has really lost some of its "magic" and become a universe of less knowledge with the destruction of the EU

It's going to be weird whenever I check out wookipedia and realize almost all the info on said website is non-canon.

I'd forgotten about Zorba, thanks. I'm not sure about Xizor though, since he was just a plastic figure at the podrace.

I'm not attempting to "backdoor" (as someone else called it) in any canon. This is a catalog showing the things that exist in the Universe within the confines that Disney has placed on Star Wars. Just because there is a planet named Qiilura, doesn't make Hard Contact canon. However, as I've said before, there is precedent to use the EU back stories, albeit with changes (e.g. Dathomir), which can be major or minor. And, since most of the people working on the new books and shows are those familiar with the EU, it would make sense that this process would continued (although, they might not do that at all, in which case, oh well).

I'm not certain this thread is the most relevant one to post this, but... I noticed that the fifth issue of the Star Wars Comic UK magazine has just been released. Technically, it's been published *after* the infamous announcement, so its content should be canon, right? ... right?

The OT based comic strips in that UK magazine are pretty good actually, but I bet they haven't been written in consultation with the new Story Group at all, which already undermines the whole New EU angle of everything being under the same umbrella

That's probably the thing that bothers/angers me the most about all this: it just seems they've made the big announcement while the details haven't been thought of. On the whole, it looks very clumsy and not quite professional.
