mon calamari: why would an alien species name themselves after food? and they wear human shoes

 

As for the name I think the sounds most likely would be attributed to have different meanings in their native tongue than food. As for the shoes. . .yea that is just weird and non-sensical for a primarily sea going species that swims as part of a regular way to get around.

 

well yeah, but isn't it a bit ironic that an aquatic-like species that looks like something between a squid and a fish is named after a fried food? or is it just me...
maybe they wear shoes to be accepted into galactic society by humans

 

Okay, my first post as a Revwian is up, so if anyone wants to let me know how I am doing for portraying this species well or wrong, please let me know! I want to do these beings justice.

I think it is just you Gizka As for footwear, that might be. Perhaps on their homeworld in areas that do not interact so much with the galaxy at large, they have their own footwear that conforms better to their feet for land travel. . . or perhaps their feet are actually in the pant leg just above the ankle with their feet clasping or resting into a foot perch.

so what happens when a human and a mon calamari sit at a restaurant together and the human orders "calamari"?

i was thinking more the mon cal and the human would just duke it out but not knowing that the conflict was actually orchestrated by palpatine in an attempt to turn the mon cal against humans by inviting them to his restaurant which has things like "calamari" and "ape-soup"--anyways, they find out it's just artificial flavor and go home.

so he has some kind of a galactic restaurant chain that's called like, "Ye Olde Palpy's steakhouse: freshly prepared meals using the dark side of the Force" ?

 

so what kind of new aliens would people like in the new continuity/movies/etc? as some people mentioned, some aliens do seem too anthropomorphic/human-like and not really alien enough. so like, why can't there be an alien that's photosynthetic but isn't classified as a plant?

Maybe, let us talk about species which were specifically engineered (for example Quermians).
The Arkanians are known to be involved in such things.
If you have read the KOTOR comic series, then you might know of Demagol trying to create Force-wielding Mandalorians.

 

Wasn't there an "augmented human" woman (genetically engineered, much taller and stronger than a normal one) in The Crystal Star, gambling with Han?

And then of course you've got the Kaminoans - who engineered themselves, before starting to do it on the genomes of others, for money.

Yes, the Kaminoans. Didn't they spread a genetically altered Aiwha on Naboo?

Sith alchemy made me think of Lord Blackhole's experiments. Remember Pic and Gorc.

 

No, they spread a genetically altered Aiwha on Kamino. They were forever tampering with their own worlds eco-system as well as themselves. Given a few more centuries to advent bio-tech I am sure they would of become more true shapers like the Yuuzhan Vong, only with just the Shaper and servant/slave casts. Pic and Gorc. . .funniest looking swine ever conceived.
