Why didn't Vitiate attempt to become Dark Lord of the Sith when Ragnos died?

I've decided to try reading star wars materials in order of publication. It seems pretty straightforward with the exception of the early early EU.

This being Marvel Star Wars, Classic Star Wars, Han solo adventures, Lando Calrissian adventures, Splinter of the minds eye and the UK marvel comics in Wild Space Volume I.

I have a decent idea on where to break the stories to go from marvel to han solo adventures, but I am not so sure about Classic Star Wars.

Any idea on where Classic Star Wars by Archie Goodwin (The five volumes that Dark Horse lists in the digital store) fits into the overarching story?

[IMG]Out of interest is there the most recent official timeline like those that is in the front of the books anywhere on the web? Set out like this example but the most recent version with every novel. I'm not new to the EU I'm just curious if there is one.

Not sure if it's on the web but I think the latest version is in the paperback of Crucible. It says "The STAR WARS Legends Novels Timeline" at the top.

Looks like that one is from '10 or so, since it only has one TOR book and only 2/3 of FOTJ. Cathy's right, the Crucible paperback has the most up-to-date timeline, which includes the removal of the Empire and Rebellion portion of Razor's Edge and HAT's titles, as well as a lack of any of the "forthcoming" double asterisks. Curiously the "eBook" single asterisks are gone as well. [face_dunno]

I literally was at barnes and nobles an hour ago and saw the "Legends" timeline in the front of the book.

I theorize that Legends books/reprints will have the legends timeline and the new canon will have....nothing? There doesn't seem to even be eras in the new continuity. Not enough content to make a timeline yet i suppose.

And with TCW most of that content went out of it's way to not have a followable timeline.

The fans are probably going to have more of a followable timeline than the Story group will.

is it a more enjoyable experience/ easier to understand to watch TCW in chronological order?

Despite the bad reviews, I kinda want to buy either Apocalypse or Crucible, seeing as those are the 'end' of the old EU. Apocalypse has better reviews, but Crucible is the last novel in the old timeline. Which works better as en ending? (Or are they both so bad I should just stay away?)
