I'm sure society would be able to cope.

Also: Hernandez, Lester, Darvish, Sale, Scherzer, Kazmir. AND THE NL IS COUNTERING WITH TYLER CLIPPARD!

    Amazing.

Very happy to see the great Pat Neshek get some time in the ASG.

And did FOX really go through the whole broadcast without a mention of Tony Gwynn? Is it true? How the **** is that possible?

Wainwright would have to be an idiot to not be joking. I had actually taken it as a shot at people who thought Ripken got a grooved pitch on his HR.

I thought I responded in kind!

Glad to see they managed to keep themselves from giving Jeter the MVP. I'm sure all 30 stadiums will be dedicating statues to him in the coming weeks.

    Amazing.

I'm obviously biased here, but I'm not so sure Wainwright was joking; the "frenzy" concerning his comments could be mildly interesting, though.

If the Bums ending winning the N.L. pennant this October, I'm so glad that a chance for them to have home-field advantage was decided by a pitcher on an opposing an N.L. team, and the 2-time MVP (even though he's a favorite player of mine) from the other league, among other plays. It's only due to my television masochism that I even watch this current incarnation of the ASG.

Huh. Never realized how understated Sluggerrr is compared to many of the other mascots.

That Jeter Nike commercial might be a little heavy handed, but pixelated Mr. Met did make me laugh. And having Mo, Pettitte, Torre, Tino, and Jorge sitting at the table as if waiting for him was cool.

I'm surprised it wasn't Neshek that set you off.

Like I said, given Neshek's story (he's from Minnesota, got his start with the Twins, devastating personal tragedy), I'm glad he got int he game.

    Amazing.

Happy that two great managers, Ron Gardenhire and Terry Francona, got to be in that dugout to wish Jeter off.

For the record, I have nothing against Derek Jeter, he's easily one of the five best shortstops of all time. It's number five on that list that I hate, the way the media has deified him over the years. Last night was a perfect example. How many different montages and tributes were there just during the course of the game, not to mention the pregame shows, the home run derby, and the weeks leading up to the game? Every single player was asked about being a part of Jeter's final All Star game.

And all that said, I think my favorite part of last night's game was Jeter doubling in the first inning when you could hear a lone fan trying to start an "Overrated" chant.

    Amazing.

But... people basically do that every time an athlete like that retires. Mo last year; Ripken before that. I mean, it's not unprecedented -- only Jeter gets the hate even though we knew at the time that Ripken had done shady things to get his streak intact...

dp4m Yeah, but you've got to admit that it was a bit much during the ASG. Parts of the farewell tour are good -I LOVE that 'respect' Nike ad-, while other parts are insufferable -the Jeter ASG overload-.

I ain't lying when I say this: if Kobe has a similar farewell tour, that would be insufferable too.

Yeah, different sport, and Kobe may blowout another knee/tear the Achilles again, but you get the idea.

Just say what we're all thinking

This Jeter crap is taking away from the much needed, around the clock LeBron coverage.

Did you mean to post this in the MLB thread or the NBA one? Either way it's funny as hell.
