Out of curiosity: what is the favorite SMALL (cruiser-sized or smaller) capship of the members here?

I like the Marauder Corvette....small, but hits above its weight class. The Carrack comes in a close second.

The Strike cruiser. Not only is it a good bang for the buck, but you get alternate versions like the modified Strike cruisers with gravity wells from the old Balance of Power campaign.

This is me speaking from EAW mods experience

Good to know the gravity well things are real, I never cared for the Carrack, maybe its the design that turns me off but i know the empire has way better and newer stuff. As far as small crusiers go the Strike is defintly pretty good. And i love my tartan and Lancer classes, nothing feels better than in the middle of a contested battle seeing plasma accurately fly out and remove enemy fighter cover. I also like the customs corrvette, maybe its just the look its very utilitarian bascially strikes me like a Imperial Millienium falcon. As far as looks go i really like the Enforcer and Vindicator classes, the Gladiator class is also a favorite. The Vigil-class also has that utilitarian feel to it, the broadside is also nice kind of a futuristic nuclear sub. And when it comes to small ships who can forget the almighty Acclamator Rush, the ship that defined Star Wars tech debates and haunted the dreams of EAW players, all kidding aside the vessels wasnt OP so much as just had a role to fill that it filled well. For low tier skirmishes where the enemy can only bring Nebulons to bare the Aclamator its a cheap counter with effective weapons and a healthy fighter compliment this kind of vessel is a godsend when dealing with Planetary security forces or rebels on your flank. The escort carrier is also very nice if nothing else for its utilitarian look. And who could forget the Victory class, i was in a battle yesterday where under heavy cover via my ISD 1s a victory 1 was able to deliver and effective missile barrage on the bridge of a NR republic-class star defender sealing its fate.

And those are just the small Imperial ships

    Yup, from TCW.

They did that in Jedi Starfighter, too. Not hard to believe a ship hundreds of meters long (wide) can get a hyperdrive.

I like the Imperial II-class frigate. It got a lot of exposure in the Biggs comic. I like the side ports for TIEs and for towing in smaller ships.

Hm, cruiser-sized or smaller? Well, there's the obvious favorites like the Millennium Falcon and the Corellian Corvette. KotOR's Hammerhead is nice too, with the elements of the Rebel Blockade runner mixed in. I think that still counts as cruiser sized? I think some sources called it a frigate too. I somewhat wish SWTOR used Hammerheads as I like them more than the Thranta-class follow-up. Seeing the crashed Endar Spire on Taris is a great nostalgia trip. Though the Jedi Defender-class corvette in SWTOR looks nice too in that red paintjob (or maybe its because my player character spends a lot of time there) and its mixture of familiar elements.

Though I still like the Dreadnaught cruiser (or is that too big?). Everybody loves Star Destroyers, but I just like the Dreadnaught for how it looks older, and somewhat utilitarian, warship look. And it leads to the Rebel Assault Frigates too (too bad we don't see those much, thought used MKIIs a lot in EaW).

I've always had a fondness for the Trade Federation Missile Frigate. I like ships that spam missiles, and it just has a cool looking design.

I think I would vote for the Vigil-class, with honorable mention to the Imperial-II frigate, the Ardent-class frigate, and the Broadside-class cruiser in the under 600 meters category.

I also have a great fondness for the Vigil-class. That always looked like a corvette the Empire could bring out during high-intensity combat situations. I suppose I also like the DP20; for some reason, it looks more like the heir of the Consular-class design (I enjoy the retrofitted TCW-version of that ship BTW) than the CR90 does.

I think it's a good mix of X-wing with other designs. It seems somehow "flatter" though.

Looks like the FFG model of the Z-95, actually.

Speaking of FFG, I'm happy that they weighed in on the Independence vs Home One- they are separate ships.

The FFG Headhunter looks like this:

Hmm. Thought it was FFG. I've seen the single intake version somewhere. It's not FFG, not WotC, don't think it was Decipher.

TCW has a single-intake version - but only two "exits"

An early version of the West End Games Headhunter (Z-95t from Tatooine Manhunt)

Meh, I never got the Carrack. It looks more like a troop transport with the front section being a cockpit, delta class stormtrooper transport, but instead it is supposed to be a much larger ship with a giant glass screen.

And the marauder I thought looked like a starfighter for a bit. I need to stop underestimating the size of ships badly

So do some of the artists. That thing plugged into the side of what looks like a Carrack, in Crimson Empire II:

looks very small, considering Marauders are supposed to be 195m and Carracks 350m.

I could see thirty years of design evolution doing that to an X-Wing....

Meh. I saw more Headhunter than X-Wing in that thing. And I'm rather upset it isn't a Z-95 :p

Put me down for the Carrack-class, as well. My favorite ship in Rebellion. A fleet of a couple two three Carracks was always so fun early game. Enough lasers to deter a full alliance Escort Carriers worth of fighters, and while the turbolaser power was relatively weak, the ship was fast enough to kite larger ships, keeping fresh shield facings towards the enemy, and swapping in and out fresh cruisers when one got in trouble.

Always thought it looked pretty slick, too.

Think the Calamari version of the Republic light cruiser. Same role.
