Do anybody know when and where it was first established that the draethos are natural telepaths?

Lets continue the discussion here and lets invite TrakNar

Of some reason I have found myself imagining Gand as dieselpunk-ish, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind like but without the 'losing knowledge' part and with imported and/or reverse engineered technology in place of found artefacts from the previous age.

Certainly you mean "invite" TrakNar. She's perfectly real already. ;)

I'm afraid I haven't seen Nausicaä, nor am I quite sure how "steampunk" and "dieselpunk" differ from each other; could you fill me in? As for found artifacts from previous ages, I'm sure there must be some that play an important role, especially given the traditionalistic bent of the culture.

    Fixed

Do it, or read the manga - I have to admit that I have not fished the series, need to do that - it is a Hayao Miyazaki adventure with lot of beautiful scenario and an interesting story.
    Some art from Nausicaä
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I recommend reading, or at least leafing throng, the manga and the art book for a better overview
The way I understand it so is both steampunk and dieselpunk retro-science-fiction. This means that they take place in a world resembling how people from an earlier age believed the future would look like, usually with a cynical twist (the punk part) so in steampunk - which is late 19-century future - you have gigantic zeppelins and trains all driven by steam and use the aeither or gigantic Morse towers for long distant communication.
Dieselpunk is "a genre that combines the aesthetics of diesel-based technology influenced by the interwar period to the 1950s with futurist postmodern technology."

the reason I mention artifacts is because Nausicaä take place in a post-apocalyptic world were much of the technology is lost and many things are driven by or work with artifacts from the old era that people have no idea how it actually work and even just knowing how to repair it is becoming a lost science.

I imagine the Gand as being similar, though with a bit more of an Eastern flair to it. Similar technology, for at least the smaller settlements, while larger settlements would be more modernized. The planet does have orbiting stations and larger spaceports, so they are at around the same level as the rest of the galaxy. Though, with how isolated each settlement is, it does make sense for the big cities to be technologically-advanced, while the smaller villages and rural areas would be far less so.

Somewhat like Dubai compared to the Bedouin.

Any kind of technology they use in large amounts/show superiority with? Like the gungans and their force-field technology

It's more of who has access to said technology. Larger settlements, such as spaceports, will have ready access to it. It'd come in with their other imports. Anyone wealthy enough to live in a spaceport (as the cost of living would be high) would have easy access to technology. Better job opportunities would be available, as would better healthcare, better food, and overall better living.

Smaller settlements out in the boonies would tend to be poorer and relying on agriculture to turn a profit. Most would be self-sufficient. The Gand living there would have no need of what the larger cities could offer, as they can survive just fine without. However, should any of them need to make a pilgrimage to the cities for any reason, I can see that happening, as well as the cities sending relief and welfare agencies out to the smaller villages.

It'd be like a richer county sending charitable organizations to third world counties.

As for ownership of technology as a status symbol, the FFG rulebook (at least my beta version) doesn't treat it as such. That states that Gand are tinkerers and just like to play around with new toys, customize them, and invent their own. It also says that they're rather scientific.

I think you misunderstood me with "show superiority" I meant that a technology that the gan have a superior skill/knowledge in creating and/or using in comparison to the rest of their technology or the rest of the galaxy.

    Ah, okay. Thanks for clarifying.

In terms of FFG's short Gand piece, they do show a superior understanding of technology, as their tinkering demonstrates. It said that a Gand's belongings would be highly customized, including the respirator.

Trak, which FFG source is this in? I'm curious to find it and read it now. :) The tinkering aspect is new on me, but it makes good sense given how adaptable the Gand have to be, both going from place to place on their own planet and going out into the galaxy at large (cf. the infamous Jeter "oxygen and ammonia breathers" quote). The respirator technology definitely would fall under that category.

I imagine that another technological area in which the Gand would excel would be in the building of those shockprod / discharger polearms of theirs (and possibly other electric-shock-type weapons too). The descriptions I've read of shockprod staves would seem to imply that they're fairly technologically advanced—methinks it take some pretty advanced engineering to design things so that the electric impulse doesn't happen until organic matter passes between the prongs. Just a thought.

It's in the core rulebook. I have the beta release of it, so I'm not sure if it's the same as in the final release.

You see it so that I don't have the book, I think my library is buying it right now but those things take time, especially in the summer, that's why I asked for a scan or quote:)

I should try to find a copy just to have around for various reference purposes. Though I hear those FFG books are pricey!

Are there any records of a well-meaning benevolent Hutt, or are they all pretty much raised to be self-indulging gangsters?

Well for one they can be self-indulged Gangsters yet still be benevolent ;) thinking creatures are just complex like that. But some of the more interesting Hutts that spring to mind when it comes to such things are.

There are properly others but these are the ones I recall at the moment. Also Jabba did a few benevolent things here and there, but I won´t list him because he went out of his way at other times to be very self indulgend indeed.

Aside from Marvel SW, I can't think of many occasions when they even make a cameo.

Star Wars Adventures Volume 1: Han Solo and the Hollow Moon of Khorya springs to mind as almost the only one.
