Lit Recanonized EU: A List

Not sure if this is already known, but the excerpt for A New Dawn shows that the concept of Core, Colonies, Inner Rim, etc still exists.

 

Good to know that they are officially saying something about the timeline. I always felt like more time was intended to pass between Ep. V and VI though as it seemed like there was an effort put forth to make Luke look older.

 

Well, he's obviously meant to have "grown up" a lot, but that doesn't have to be literal. And it'd be sort of odd if finding Han in Jabba's palace took more than a year.

Considering TPM is "zero hour" in the canon timeline, it makes sense.

 

I'm not sure if it is implying that at all. I think Chee was just trying to indicate how much time was meant to pass in this new disney era.

I still hope the Empire finally get a calendar based on the founding of the Empire, because it not having one always struck me as really odd.

 

The ways I see to interpret this statement:
1. The movies are not non-canon by overlapping with the novelizations. Yes, this goes without saying. The way this could have been the statement is if whoever made the statement that the novelizations are canon (the original statement, not the Heddle clarification) didn't know enough to give an intelligent answer and assumed that the novelizations must be canon because they tell the same story as the movies.
2. The novelizations are canon, but only the scenes that are the same as the movies. In other words, the novelizations add character thoughts to canon, but no additional scenes or "EU" elements.
3. The novelizations are canon except in so far as they don't outright contradict with the films. In this case, "aligns with" means "doesn't contradict". So certain EU elements are brought into canon, but Luke doesn't fly Blue 5 at the Battle of Yavin (for example).
In all the time that has passed we still haven't gotten further clarification as to what they meant.

Stuff from Rise of the Rebels

The Outer Rim is the largest part of the galaxy; large parts of it are rarely explored/unmapped (so there might actually no longer we Wild Space/ Unknown Regions)

TIEs are insanely fast and flown by elite pilots, but are easily destroyed by a shoot or two

Droidspeak is still binar

Droids (or at least Chopper) are programed to preserve the lives of his owner´s, going as far as to kill another sentient to do so (R2 would be proud)

Art and culture is heavily censored by the Empire.

Mandalorian armour is insanely rare, with Boba being about the only prominent person to wear a set and their warrior culture is hinted at being lost and forgotten by the galaxy at large.

Stormtroopers go by numbers and pretty much lose their personality in training, for which the Empire tends to pick people that are easily brainwashed and have something of a mean streak to begin with.

The Empire is apparently still fond of genocide.

Huttese is a common trader language.

Credits of the Empire come in chips and coins.

Aliens are often enslaved by the Empire, Kashyyyk and Lasat are given as examples.

Tougher races are still more resistant to stun bolts and are able to shake of the effect.

Black Markets are common and often deal in military gear.

TIE fighter pilots outfits work as full flight suits and have the ability to filter air.

TIE pilots are navy officers.

Hawk-Bats are still around.

Or very little could have changed and everyone's making a big deal over nothing. Just as likely.

There is no new EU, it's all canon now. The movies, the new tv shows, the new books and comics and games. Anything from the old EU that gets referenced will be as canon as the movies, for the first time ever. No more uncle George telling us "that didn't happen in my world".

Ord Mantell is from ESB, not an EU planet.

There really is no "new EU." The Expanded Universe (1978 - 2014) is no longer considered canon. And now, books, comics, etc. are at the same level of canonicity as the movies.

The character Lorian Nod was mentioned in the RotS novelization, IIRC. (In the 'This is Count Dooku' section). So he'd be status unknown.

 

Good! The Unknown Regions, and the NJO maps up to the Atlas maps, didn't make any sense.

 

Wild Space exists, we hear it named in the TCW movie. Teth is part of it. Sounds like only the UR is out.

It's a bit like, why is this place unknown anymore? You've had thousands of years to take a look around out there.
