JCC OZK's laundry thread

I know many of you may come from different schools of thought, but my parents, especially my mother, taught me the importance of separating whites and colors.

I find maintaining the constant battle for cleanliness with whites tremendously challenging. The biggest battles for me are dinginess and collar ring. I usually use an enzymatic stain stick on my collars, which does the trick usually but it seems like the collar still slowly deteriorates. Any suggestions? I know it's important to launder shirts as quickly as possible after wearing to prevent the stain from setting. I don't have particularly oily skin and I do practice good hygiene - but is there anything I can do to prevent my neck from staining the color in the first place?

T-shirts and towels tend to get dingy, and I know it's possible to reverse this, but I have tried with little success some remedies I have found online. Do you guys have any experience? I just hate how my perfectly functional t-shirts and towels tend to look unattractively grey after a few months of repeated wearing/use and washing.

I don't like using chlorine bleach as it's harsh on fabric and doesn't usually produce the results I want. Has anyone else found whiteners with better success?

I have seen the dish washing detergent thing suggested multiple places. Does this really work?

Stop wearing white shirts.

 

Overwhelmingly, for the most professional appearance, a white dress shirt is required. Because of my obligations, I am unable to stop. I also really like the way they look.

Also I'd still like my undershirts not to be dingy. Especially as I have to buy extra tall ones which tend to be more expensive.

 

I'm sure if you look around on-line you'll find a forum dedicated to people with an overwhelming interest in laundry. There must be one out there.

I found the many prostitutes I visited often left lipstick on my white collars. I found the only way to resolve the problem was to stop seeing prostitutes.

This was brilliant (like my t-shirts once I figure out how to brighten them). My one criticism is that in the third commercial he didn't also offer African-American customers a 40% discount.

I always get white eggs and my Hispanic ex roommate would always get brown eggs. I wonder if there is a connection. But regardless, I don't see how egg whites will help my dingy whites problem.
