Some things are cool, mystical, and magical...like yoda space ships and the force, others... like baby Anakin come across as childish, silly, and blatantly appealing to a demographic.

Lucas wanted to show the extent of a Force User's power at a young age. I don't see a problem with it.

And Lucas has many gears in his head.

Maybe the changing gear sounds are a metaphor for the different (and strongly-connected) layers of meaning inherent in every frame of the prequels, and every cut, every gesture, every design...

More like the engines have different gears for speed. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

How did cigars come into existence?

I see where the confusion is coming from. That's an entirely seperate piece of technology called the shakeweightsaber. it's an easy mistake to make, I'll admit.

There's just one thing that annoys me about The Phantom Menace...

....the bit between the opening title crawl and the end credits.

i'd say terrance stamp was annoyed with tpm. http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/JoshWildingNewsAndReviews/news/?a=73391 here's the quotess from stamp in the link if u want to read.

"I didn't rate him that much as a director, really. I didn't feel like he was a director of actors; he was more interested in stuff and effects. He didn't interest me and I wouldn't think I interested him"I came all the way back from Australia to do it. I didn't want to but my agent leaned on me and I wanted to meet Natalie Portman because I'd seen her in The Professional. And I did meet her and she was absolutely enchanting. But on the day I'm supposed to do my scene with her, for which I'd travelled halfway around the world, I said, 'Where's Natalie?' And George says, 'That's Natalie,' and points to a bit of paper on the wall. It was just boring.

Apart from that being totally off-topic, his "agent" should have told Stamp he didn't sign a contract that got him paid for meeting Natalie Portman. Seriously, though, I'm quite sure Portman wasn't out of reach for too long. Maybe the underage actress just didn't find him equally "enchanting" :p

Nah, that was just standard procedure during the making of the PT. Unless they needed to be on set at the same time, Lucas would shoot stuff separately and then splice it together.

Except that wasn't done all the time. The fact is that Lucas was never an actor's director. Even with his first three films.
