I would imagine the Scimitar and Skipray are coming in future waves.

Love what they're doing with lightsaber specs... in each career, one specialization is a lightsaber form. So, for instance, you can start Consular: Healer, and spec out into Niman, or go Guardian and straight into the Soresu spec.

Also, this answers Ender Sai's question about how they're handling Jedi:

Everybody is a Jedi (or Adept) right from the start. Like they always said, it's a full standalone game for 100% force users. However, they've gimped starting lightsabers so that you'll have to train to get better with it, and it seems you'll be better out of the gate if you choose a different combat focus to start (appropriate to your character, of course) with but with less opportunity to beef it up as you go.

Seeing how bland the crossover between EotE to AoR is---after all, most of the careers and specs are just different takes on the same concepts available in EotE---I don't think it'll be a problem to have full Jedi specs in the mix. If you don't want you fringe campaign going all Forcey, you just keep F&D off the table. Boom.

It sounds like a Rebels induced change that all lightsaber crystals now are called "Kyber crystals."

It's interesting how the concept developed out of Anakin's lightsaber being described as having ornate crystals on its exterior in ADF's novelization.

I'm hearing that it's "Star Wars Descent".

So I've been reading AoR's core rulebook. No wonder Nick hated it -- it points out how "most of the Core" was loyal to the Empire, something Nick often likes to contest. But even his previous Rebel sympathizing worlds, like Chandrila, are described as having many citizens who support the Imperial regime and argue on its behalf. It does, however, completely ignore Mon Cola's fish monarchy, so maybe Nick enjoys that though.

My favorite bit was how it talks about Imperial propagandists often drawing attention to Mon Mothma's dictatorial control over the Rebellion. It's almost like they're referring to me :p

The art is also pretty great. My favorite is probably this bit looking out the viewports of a Mon Cal cruiser to see an SSD and ISDs bearing down on it with guns blazing, with the Mon Cal officer pointing at the ships in panic. :D There's also, surprisingly, artwork of a female grand moff -- perhaps the Dargon mentioned in the Corellia book? There's also a cool artwork of an Imperial advisor addressing stormtroopers (I think someone mentioned this one to me before).

To be clear, my disappointment with the books doesn't stem from anything you mentioned, but rather it's lack of consistently new information. It was a re-tread of the RASB, but lacking it's depth.

As for the Core, our disagreements about the them have never really stemmed from the 0-4 ABY period. You will be hard pressed to find a quote from me claiming the Rebels had major support in the Core pre-Endor.

Picked up the Arda I adventure yesterday. Fantastic campaign for the AoR setting - the PCs participate in the fall of a Rebel base, the setting up of a new one in a different location, and hunting a spy on an Imperial loyal world in the Outer Rim. (For Fleet Junkies, the TIE Hunter makes an appearance. There's no fleet battle - the Sector Group just has freighters and fighters - but there is an encounter with an Interdictor).

Always cool to see snowy urban environments, with Snowtroopers present, no less.

I love how that guy in the last illustration is preaching to stormies in helmets. Is that some sort of individuality-suppressing speech?

"My brothers and sisters, don your helmets for the next two hours and let the HUD flow through you!"
"Can you tell who's this guy on the stage?"
    "I dunno -- I can't see a thing in this helmet."

    Too tall and too slender.

But that picture with the ISD obliterating the Nebulon with the turbolasers from its dorsal centre-line is great.

More likely Blista-Vanee, with that hat. They've done a card of him already, too.

Considering one dev of Rebels said the Jedi turned clones into people and the Empire turned people into clones, you might be close to the mark.

I thought the change to Kyber crystals happened in the padawan arc of TCW...

Technically Hondo's the only one calling them kyber crystals in that arc. Still - it does seem that this is the appropriate term now.

Sounds neat. I have Descent 2nd edition (and no one to play it with) and this does look incredibly similar. Hopefully the Empire is stronger then the Overlord. The heroes always stomp him in the games I've played.

Ordered up Arda I and Far Horizons. Looking forward to adding to my ongoing master Asperger's spreadsheet of species and equipment stats and stuff.

Far Horizons was pretty good, too - but mostly for the RPG fans. Not much for the fleet and warfare crowd, though.

I think it's an interesting mechanics choice, frankly, and I'm glad it's not "Fringe 2.0" from SWMinis.

While I wasn't overly keen on introducing a third faction, they've gone about it the right way with the new unique ships, and dual purposing of some of the old ones that would logically appear in both factions. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised this IS FFG afterall.

I am somewhat disappointed that I'll have to buy four IG-2000s though. But it is what it is.
