Hardest/easiest type of scene to write?

If you could swap bodies (so your mind is in their body, and theirs in yours) for one day only, who would it be?

 

I can not say I have one favourite, I like different authors for different stories. When it comes to influencing my writing stile I would say Timothy Zhan, he has a wonderful ability to give character to a person or a people with just a few lines, H.P. Lovecraft, who was a master when it come to describing places and creating atmosphere, and Sandy Mitchell, who’s use of footnotes to flash out cultures and happenings is something I really like.

Going by who’s movies I am most likely to buy if I see them – Errol Flynn.
Why: because he has charisma, charm, a quick tong and in this age of relativity and cynicism his adventures movies where we rather easy know good from bad and there is nearly always a happy ending is rather unusual in movies aimed at grown ups.

Oh, a hard one. I will go altruistic and chose a big, made-to-last-forever, spaceship with instruction books and lots of spar parts. Then I will use it to expand humanities knowledge about the cosmos without changing the power balance to much and hopefully make some money.
When it comes to Force powers I think I would like to be able to fell the Force as some Force users do and have combined natural flow and danger sense.

A bit cold, a bit rainy, a bit sun and a bit windy. Thankfully not all at the same time.

I don’t play any instruments but I do sing and whistle for myself.

I have really hard time binding scenes together or continue a scene into the next one. I am also horrible with fight scenes.

I comes from the somewhat obscure swedish gothic medieval fantasy RPG Gemini (it was actually translated into English, so you may find one exemplar in a used book store somewhere).
Gemini’s elves are rather different (and also know as iron elves of some reason), they have biological hive system – a bit like ants or wasps – where the lower cast live shorter and are less intelligent, while the higher cast live longer then humans. There is only one female among them: the elf queen, who has four prince-consorts whose children make up the four different sub-cultures among the iron elves. One of those prince-consorts was Gamiel.
I first used that name as a LARP name then it become my internet name.

I think I will go with Bauhaus from the RPG Mutant Chronicles.

First some background:
Mutant Chronicles take place in a far distant future. Humanity, now divided after mega-corporations instead of countries, have left the desolated Earth and colonised the other, now terraformed, planets in the solar system. Sadly we also find a tenth planet – Nero. And here explorers awaken an ancient evil: the Dark Legion.
Only thanks to the faith and mystical powers of the Brotherhood was the Dark Legion beaten back and re-sealed.
All this is old history, and the Dark Legion have returned to once again make war on humanity and this time they intend to win!

Because one of the first things the Dark Legion did was casting a spell that made any electronically technology unreliable, even treacherous, humanity abounded all the advanced technology that had become a part of everyday life. Even after the Dark Legion was sealed so did the spell continue to last.
All this have lead to creating a dark fantasy dieselpunk military/noir science fiction world.

The different fractions in Mutant Chronicles are the five mega-corporations:
Bauhaus: Who specialize in high quality products and have culture reminiscent of later 19th continental Europe, mostly Germany.
Capitol: think the most Gung-ho parts of Vietnam War U.S.A. with some parts from the interwar period.
Cybertronic: the youngest mega-corp (less then 100 years old) and the only one not based on any Earth culture, instead they can only be described as high-tech, efficient and impersonal. They are somehow able to mostly ignore the Dark Legion’s anti tech spell and can therefore use robots, computers and cybernetics.
Imperial: United Kingdom, mostly with an Elizabethan/Victorian feel. Some of the units are violent Scott-/Irish Highlanders with a berserk streak and love for facepaint.
Mishima: Mostly Edo Japan, with samurai, ninjas and warrior monks and few bits and pieces of other asian cultures. Specialise in cheap mass-production and pirate copies of other corporations designs.

There is also:
The Cartel: ca. highly corrupt FN/NATO
The Brotherhood: think the medieval catholic church but with Force powers and ninjas.
The Dark Legion: the very real forces of Hell to the Brotherhood’s church, thankfully split into fractions.
The forces of Dark Eden: the humans who survived the atomic war that destroyed Earth, have clawed themselves up to a industrial age level of technology. Not one bit united.

The reason I like Bauhaus is mostly because their fraction book makes you really cheer for them, something none of the other fraction books succeeds in doing. Although the Bauhaus book points out that it is a highly class based, fascistic aristocracy with little free speech it still makes you think that they are the best of the good guys.

I admit that it is not the most creative SF culture but I really like how it makes me cheer for the fascists nd the way the book presents them makes them feel like a living culture.

 

Yes, outside of fanfic, and I assume costuming given some responses I've seen here, what other hobbies do you pursue?

In Bergman's version: spirits of air I think and how they use the camera work, outside of that I have not really seen any other version of the Magic Flute.

Well, I have only armature viewers interest in costuming but I like well designed/put together costumes and dislike when somebody have put no real thought in a design, see for example my short rant on the Kilian ranger's look in the Beyond the big two: lesser Force traditions in the GFFA threat.

I read comics and books and watch movies, preferably belonging to the adventure, fantasy, science-fiction, superhero and kajiu genre. I usually ignore autobiographies, and deconstructions.

I collect and play RPG:s and are right now in two campaigns - one Vampire the Masquerade (taking place in the 50's-60's New York) and one Werewolf the Apocalypse (taking place in todays Scandinavia) - and is planning a steampulp World of Darkness: Changingbreeds campaign were the supernatural is part of the normal society something made a bit hard by White Wolf Publishing's americentrism. Beside that I have a large collections of RPG:s that I most likely will never use outside of as inspiration.

Right now I also from time to time play TOR to get to know the storyline and the design, right now I am rather unimpressed by much of the architecture and, at least on the imperial side, the clothes.

I do world building as a small time hobby, and I think I have become rather good at it so if you have world building questions I may be able to help.

Right now, not really. I mostly hope for new cultures and new parts/places of planets/cultures we have already seen.

Have you ever wanted to jump out of a perfectly good airplane (skydiving)?

 

Part of me have but other parts of are rather afraid of the idea.

Mostly Swedish but with some english, I think. You know how in dreams you just know what the other guy is saying/meaning so I am a bit uncertain.

 

What do you prefer writing, character introspection, dialogue, action etc?

World building mostly, I actually have to stop myself from going all out and spend half a page introducing the planet and it's culture. As it is right now I am sacrificing world building for a working story.

No and no. I have a half hearted interest in horse sports but mostly because many members of my family are interested in it and that have rubbed of.

Oh, let me first take a look at some of the different race/culture in SW *goes to look* I say:

a) Codru-Ji of Munto Codru
b) a combination of Romanesque Revival, High Gothic and National Romantic style. Mostly because how they were presented in the Essential Guide to Planets and Moons were the description and small illustrations gave me romantic middle ages fell.*
Now, we see Munto Codru in the Legacy comic and it is rather different from what I have suggested but since Munto Codru is a planet there is more the enough space for both architectural stiles.

* I think Munto Codru and Dathomir are the two SW worlds that for me are the default setting for Fantasy stories and when I made up some examples of lesser Force traditions in the Beyond the big two thread so was one of them Munto Codru’s Wild Wizards.
Also I can really see the D&D monster Dragonne being part of Munto Codru's ecology
