For Uma Thurman right? All the scenes with her as Ivy made me feel..funny.

When this film ended in the theatre people got up and I can quote their remarks:

    "I sat through this?"

    "That stunk."

    "I wasted money on this."

    "That was dumb."

Chris O'Donnell said it best. Batman Forever was a film. Batman and Robin Nipple Suit was a toy commercial.

There's an interesting theory to the effect that George Clooney with a competent script could've resulted in a really high-quality Batman portrayal. I don't know about that, but I do know he's the easiest on the eyes of the pre-Bale Bruce Waynes.

Well, at least you don't want to watch "Pumaman & Robin".

I could buy that. Hell, I've actually said that in the past. He's a really good actor and should have been an awesome Batman, he just got stuck with a trainwreck of a Batfilm.

Joining the chorus on that. I loved the scenes with Alfred where Bruce was clearly afraid Alfred was going to die. If there's one person Bruce is going to let his emotional guard down, it's with Alfred and Clooney played that perfectly.

It seemed as if Clooney has an expression of self-loathing on his face during the whole film. Why was it that Val Kilmer didn't return?

Meh, I think Clooney tends to have a very casual demeanor that is not well suited to Batman.

That's because he kind of does. I saw him give an interview to Charlie Rose, when he was promoting Monument Men and he took B&R without reading the script because it was a Batman film. He basically said that if he had realized that B&R was going to be such a stinker, he would have passed. It taught him to read the screenplay before accepting and to pay attention to the quality of the writing. It's also why he now produces/writes a lot of the movies that he stars in.

He's an excellent screenwriter who works especially well with the actors. Actors who become directors seem to always rely on good performances. Good Night and Good Luck has a superb showing of David Straithairn's talents.

That doesn't explain Monuments Men. Zing!

I feel like Clooney would have sucked regardless of the script quality. He just doesn't have a chip on his shoulder, he doesn't play that well. Batman needs to be dark in a way I doubt Clooney can get to. I don't mean to say he's not a good enough actor, but audiences even then were too familiar with him as the wrong kind of cool guy. Bale worked because he could pull off that dark, desperate violence.

Yeah, although Clooney is a fine enough actor, I honestly don't know if he could pull stuff like SWEAR TO ME! DO I LOOK LIKE A COP! I'M THE GODDAMNED BATMAN with the edge you'd expect from a slightly unhinged urban vigilante. He's had his share of serious roles in the nearly two decades since B&R. But even now, although he could pul off a suave, elegant middle-aged Bruce Wayne, I sincerely don't know he could do the same with a fully costumed, supposed-to-be-pant-crapping-menacing Batman.
