Lit Recanonized EU: A List

This became a problem with the start of the NJO series, where you couldn't pass though the border of the galaxy unless you were in one particular location. After that, they piled on more reasons why a large section of the galaxy was almost unknown. Now that the NJO is non-canon, this isn't a problem any more.

They just make the Outer Rim/Wild Space filled with unknown systems. I think Rise of the Rebels even says you can travel the space lanes in the Outer Rim for years without meeting anyone. They're making the OR out to be the big unknown in canon, apparently. Vast emptiness in-between known systems. That way you could have characters traverse the galactic disk and still run into new things.

 

A galaxy is so much more than the disc. The movies makes it more or less clear that the galaxy is explored (otherwise there would for example be countless places for Grievous to hide, not to mention the Rebellion). I think it makes sense that the Outer Rim encompasses the edges of the galactic disc while the galactic halo (which has a much lower concentration of stars and those there are older and lacks in metals) and satellite galaxies (which were seen on maps in AOTC) are largely unexplored (or ignored).

 

I'd be okay with the URs and WS being subregions of the Outer Rim. I kind of doubt they are going to throw the Atlas maps off the window, considering TCW seemed more than happy to use them.

There is _possibly_ still room for it. The AotC analysis droids commented that their information spanned 80 percent of the galaxy. That leaves 1/5th un-catalogged.

Which doesn't translate to 20 % being a galactic slice. The same book said there were unknown systems throughout the OR.

 

To my mind, the possibilities would be:

1. That the Archive had information on artifacts and products from every world in the Republic, which by itself constitutes 80% of the galaxy.
2. That the Archive had information on artifacts and products from every world in the Republic plus worlds outside it, with the total constituting 80% of the galaxy.
3. That the Archive did not have complete information even from every world in the Republic.

Your argument is for #3, but I would think the arrogance of Jocasta Nu and PK-4 would suggest that #3 is not correct, leaving our options as #1 or #2. I wouldn't think #1 really fits the arrogance narrative either, since the whole "{it} doesn't exist" and 'if I can't tell you, no one can' attitude of Nu and PK-4 would make little sense if they didn't have any info from outside the Republic.

That would be like something not having an American UPC code so everyone acts like it's all unidentifiable and perhaps something you made yourself just to mess with them, but really it's just from England.

 

However, you are correct in that it does not necessarily represent a contiguous slice.

The kilian rangers are from Wizard of the Coast's Rebellion Era Sourcebook, pages 48-51 to be exact.

Are the TCW novels canon, though? I don't think they were part of the first announcement.

 

Novelizations of movies count (where they align) and what's being referred to is the novelization of the TCW movie.

Nobody knows for sure yet - some say yes, and that it would be silly to specify "novelizations are canon" if nothing actually seen on screen counts - some say no - "align means exactly matches what's on screen"

 

Just finished "Ezra's Gamble". Apart from some eye-rollingly stupid stuff ("commlink", "all the shots went wild", or Bossk cryptoquoting Princess Leia) and TONS of name-dropped species, the juiciest continuity bit IMO are the implications about Bossk's relationship with his father. We're not given a name, but he taught Bossk how to "boost" (seems to be standing for "steal" here) a speeder bike, but Bossk gets quite aggressive when Ezra keeps asking for more information about his father. All of which fits rather likely with EU Cradossk from what I remember...
