Okay guys, so I just finished rereading Mercy Kill (just in time to read AND), and I have to say in retrospect, it makes a LOT more sense now that I have read all of the other X-Wing books. Like all the cameos from the old Wraiths: Lara/Kirney, Face, Dia, and of course Wedge. And there was Piggy, one of the main characters. Best chapter was probably the prologue, though...or the one where Face pretends to be a Jedi.

P.S. Has anyone seen the Wookieepedia page for Gara Petothel? It's probably as long as Luke Skywalker's!

Do you need to read the other post-NJO books to follow what is happening in Mercy Kill? I haven't gone beyond 2/3rds of the Dark Nest Trilogy on the timeline

 

I think you will be absolutely fine reading Mercy Kill without reading other post NJO books. The previous X-wing books are most important Great read, glad you enjoyed it Darkwriter.

So out of curiosity (not going back over 603 pages!) did we ever fan-cast the characters in the Rogues and Wraiths?

 

Off and on people have posted their preferences, I don't think we ever came to a consensus or anything. If you have ideas you're welcome to share.

It was done in the Mandalorian thread for the Republic/Imperial Commando series; but (far as I can remember) not since I've had this on 'Watch'.

 

Johnny Depp should be someone. Just sayin'...

Fancasting Tycho for Legacy/Mercy Kill era, I kind of want to go with Paul Bettany.

 

My problem with the casting game for the rogues is that too many of them were in the comics and therefore that's how I picture them. I'm stuck in my ways So I'm going to be no help with this.

Denis Lawson as Wedge Antillies!

I do have a list for some of the others somewhere but will have to dig it up.

Always thought of a young John Hannah for Tycho for some reason.

 

For (a younger) Wes Janson, I could totally picture Colin Donnell.


For Myn Donos, I picture Jeremy Renner.


These are the biggest two who stand out as real-life actors in my mind; I'll see if I can come up with some later.

 

Oh, just had a thought. Since Denis declined to be involved… I wonder if we see Janson, Hobbie or any of the other originals returning instead in Ep VII.

EDIT: Hmm… Colin Donnell wasn't bad. Will need to watch Arrow Season 1 again to see if I can see as Janson

 

Donnell has the goofy best friend vibe a lot of the time that Janson has. Even when Donnell's character was supposed to be acting angry, at the end of one of his rants he always looked like he was going to explode into laughter. Perfect for Janson, really.

One of the later Wraiths (as in, Mercy Kill) but I pictured Trey Courser as being portrayed by Eric Christian Olsen.

 

The key to any Janson casting is finding a Hobbie

Love, love, love the Renner as Donos idea. He's a bit short, but he's so great at the precise facade covering intense pain.

Now I'm trying to pick a Lara - Saoirse Ronan, Romola Garai, Carey Mulligan, and Emily Browning are all bumping around in my head - I love them all, and I think they have the range for it, but none of them are screaming "Lara" to me.

Whatever we do, I don't want R2-D2 cast as Tonin. We need a new, freshly painted astromech for the grand role of King of the Droids.

Edit: Allston said in an interview that he envisioned a very young Adam Baldwin as Trey Courser (he referenced the film New York Taxi, I believe).
