Saw no existing thread for this particular topic.

Ep VIII and IX have their director, and so does the first spin-off if I'm not mistaken. Other than that, the future is wide open as far who will sit in the director's chair in the future. So who in your wildest dreams would you want to see running the show on a Star Wars set?

I want Joe Johnston, and I want him bad.

One that I've rarely heard brought up in this context is Danny Boyle. He seems to have made it his mission to do one film of every possible genre, and they've pretty much all been incredible (with only one exception off the top of my head).
Give him a spinoff, any spinoff, and I'm confident he'd both be enthusiastic about working in the Star Wars galaxy and more than equal to the task.
He's already good friends with MacGregor - they launched their careers together with Shallow Grave and Trainspotting. Might as well slot him in for the Kenobi spinoff.

I could never Like this post enough.

Edgar Wright - he's a phenomenal director and even though his films have all been comedies they have a heart and substance to them that a lot of modern dramas don't have. And he's a fan and friends with JJ.

Out of left field choice: Peter Weir.

Master & Commander, Truman Show, Dead Poets Society, Witness.

Would be a high quality more personal yet epic kind of film.

I've been hoping the rumored Boba Fett film finds itself turning into a trilogy itself helmed by Joe Johnston

Only person I would have preferred to direct VII than Abrams would have been Spielberg, so I'd love for him to do one.

I'd love to see Jon Favreau direct one. Ridley Scott could also be a good choice depending on the type of story it was. Same with Ron Howard, for maybe a slower-paced story.

It seems like the spin-offs aren't being picked up by "big" (popular in culture) directors, though. A lot of new people are coming in, which is cool as long as the movies aren't bad!

just like how many Star wars spin-off movies, Episodes, animated EU stuff, and tv shows are there going to be? Its star wars madness and its awesome.

Can you imagine if they did this for 30 years instead of book. One can only know how many movies we could of had with Harrison ford, carrie fisher, mark Hamill after return of the jedi.

Old school choices---James Cameron, Aliens is one of my favorite flicks of all time (not to mention he knows how to use practical effects as well as CGI--Terminator, T2, Titanic, Avatar). He is talented and can get the most of the story and talent around him.
    Ron Howard.

    New school.

Stanley Kubrick (Though we'll never get to see this come to fruition, obviously)
    Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium)
Guillermo Del Toro (Pacific Rim, Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy)
Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity, Children of Men)
Alex Proyas (Dark City, The Crow, I Robot)
Darren Aronofsky (Requiem For A Dream, Pi, The Wrestler, Black Swan)
    Duncan Jones (Moon)
    Terry Gilliam (Brazil, Twelve Monkeys)
Zack Snyder (The Watchmen, Man of Steel, 300)
Kevin Smith (As someone stated earlier, he's a huge fan, and I am particularly fond of Smith's work, though I'm sure most people here aren't. It'd be nice to see what kind of film he would do in the SW universe)
    Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow)
The Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix, Cloud Atlas, V For Vendetta) (They can't write their own material worth a crap, so you give them a story treatment by Lucas and let them play in the SW universe, I think they'd do a great job)
Spike Jonze (Playing off his hit film "Her", he makes a film in the SW universe about a human being falling in love with a protocol droid)

Lucas has already done some of the movies. He's retired too.
Let some new blood come in.
