Amph The Expanse (book and TV and...video game series?)

So, my current favorite scifi adventure series is The Expanse. Four books are out so far: Leviathan Wakes, Caliban's War, Abbaddon's Gate, and Cibola Burn. Fifth book is on its way out soon. In addition, there's a tv show in the works (who knows how good or bad that'll be).

Currently on Caliban's War. Series premise is a cold war between the United Nations of Earth (with the largest space fleet in the solar system), the Mars Congressional Republic (smaller population and military but a bit more advanced) and the outer planets and colonies, oppressed by both and somewhat run by a proto-state terrorist organization. Starts off as a murder mystery and takes some levels in "well, that escalated quickly." There's no FTL or any of that stuff here yet, at least.

Main characters are fairly down-to-earth (lol). I'm not sure any side or characters can be described as 'good,' but there are some definite ***holes. YMMV, though.

If there's no FTL, do they travel via warp drives?

If there's no FTL what science are we going to argue about?

Lord Vivec are there any other SF authors you would say this is like?

    The premise sounds very interesting.

I enjoyed Brin's Uplift series as well as Vigne. Anything like those?

It looks ok but it looks like it needs a bigger budget or something.

Vivec, is there emotion? A clean plot / through line of the series? What do you love about these books?

I really hope this, Star Wars, and Guardians of the Galaxy does the same thing for space opera what LOTR, Harry Potter, and GOT did for fantasy.

This looked like it cost a lot of money. I hope they don't screw this one up.

Is it worth reading book 2 of this series? Couldn't put down the first but I read three chapters of the second and just sort of went and read other stuff.

Yes. Book 2 introduces some new interesting main characters. So far, every book in this series has been at least "great" in my opinion, even my least favorite one.

Even the "worst" one is good.
