Hi folks: things have gotten pretty casual these days with people openly discussing spoilers, rumors, and leaks in various threads. The Lit mod team has decided to revive the Prequel-era spoiler policy.

-- Rumors/leaks for any upcoming Star Wars film/TV show are subject to the below restrictions.

-- Movie/TV show spoilers/leaks/rumors should be confined to the dedicated threads for that particular movie/show (e.g. Rogue One rumors in the Rogue One thread, etc., Episode VIII rumors in the Episode VIII thread etc.)

-- A spoiler is defined as a leak or a rumor. A spoiler is NOT officially released and authorized material. Officially released and authorized material includes: trailers, press releases or publications by Star Wars, articles in legitimate publications with LucasFilm permission (such as Entertainment Weekly), and toys/books/other products once they are officially released.

--Spoilers posted in the movie/show thread MUST use spoiler tags. Because the "spoiler=" functionality is broken on clients like tapatalk, please use generic spoiler tags like below:

    Code:
Hey folks, did you guys hear this TFA rumor? [spoiler]It turns out Palpatine was really Gungan the entire time![/spoiler]
--Movie/show spoilers posted outside of the dedicated movie/show threads will be edited.

--Movie/show spoilers posted outside of the dedicated movie/show threads that lack spoiler tags will result in instant bans.

You may post any questions/concerns here.

Please note that "I don't want to expend the effort to tag spoilers and come on this is the 2020s, the internet is full of spoilers" isn't a valid reason not to be polite to your fellow users who don't want to be spoiled.

    Thanks!

Regarding non-movie threads, this came up in Diversity last week so let me clarify with a fake example.

Under this system, that's no longer acceptable?

For now, yes, that's what the policy would require. Spoilers may only be posted in the movie threads. If we can get a hold on spoilers and it looks like everyone has little difficulty following the rules, we might look at it again.

So if I mentioned Kylo Ren in a thread would that count as a spoiler?

Added the following clarification to the post:

Under this standard, the name Kylo Ren is not a spoiler. However, if you happened to know who Kylo Ren's parents are, that would be a spoiler because that information is not in any officially released products. Similarly, if there are rumors or leaks about his parentage, that would also be a spoiler.

What will the policy be post-release? A release discussion thread, spoilers allowed in threads marked TFA spoilers, open policy after 30 days?

We're discussing it but I'd say all three seem likely.

Not about movie spoilers - but comic spoilers in general:
After spending quite some time here with the new canon, I'm come to notice a pattern.

So we get a new arc. Let's say it's called "Darth Vader: Vadernating the Country Side" and it's 5 issues. A thread will be created with the title and it'll say "Darth Vader #1-5: Title of the Arc (0/5 released)." There will be some discussion about it. The preview for 1 of 5 will be posted with spoiler tags. The issue will be released on Wednesday with some more discussion following the release now that people have read it in its entirety and that'll be marked in spoiler tags as well. All of this is great and the community is very conscientious of the tags. No one is spoiled, unless they want to be, and everyone gets a chance to read the comic and dive into the spoilers as they see fit to continue the discussion.

But we know comics are very fluid and issues are planned months and months in advance and we get the news about these future comics way before a current arc ends. So while everyone is either reading Darth Vader 2 of 5, we hear about a new arc: "Darth Vader: Vadernating the Peasants" and let's say it's a 4 story arc. But since that isn't coming out for quite some time, a thread is not created for it yet.

So with the 1st 5 issue arc not yet ended, there are solicitations and potential spoilers of the events of that arc being spoiler tagged about the next 4 issue arc in the same single thread. Everyone is super great about tagging spoilers, but when the conversation is mixed with current issues and future issues you can potentially click on the spoiler link to talk about Darth Vader 2 of 5 a few days later and all of a sudden you're seeing 1 of 4 of the next arc with a picture and the solicitation information. Maybe you're fast enough to close it. Maybe the cover isn't a spoiler, maybe it is, and you see something you didn't mean to see.

Either way, I'd like to propose that in a current arc thread that links to future arcs are not discussed or shared. Otherwise, a small little description would be super helpful above the spoiler tag about which issue you're discussing (example - re: #2/5). It would be great if a separate thread could be created to discuss the next arc in a series and maybe linked in the OP. [ie: Previous arc: link; Future arc: link]

It's not a fool proof plan/solution since in the current Aphra thread of 20-25, on the first page of the thread solicit #24 is being linked to only have #20 had been released. I guess I don't understand why anyone would want to read about happens in #24 when they haven't read 21, 22, or 23 yet. I digress. Thank you for the consideration.
