Awesome. That pretty much confirms that they are going to continue from where they left off. Can't wait.

Just seeing Luke and Rey again and imagining what lies ahead... The chills.

Well if anything this video goes to prove that we will probably have no time lapse between the two movies.

Well, that scene doesn't have to be the start of the film. Especially given Rian's habit of not playing it linear.

The feel of that short clip was more LOTR than trad SW. Intriguing.

I called it a month back. Episode VII and VIII are two parts of one movie. The time lapse may happen between VIII and IX.

Eh? How has that rumour proved true? A common sense look at the surviving cast after episode VII would tell you Poe is likely to have a bigger role in the next film

I still... doubt that there won't be a time lapse. If anything there will be flashbacks of some kind to Rey and Luke's first meeting (if these scenes even make it into the film out of the cutting room). Or there'll be a time jump immediately after seeing them meet. But I think the former is more likely because you need time to have passed to actually set up the plot so that they can actually write something substantial for the crawl? And you need time to pass not just letting characters heal from injuries but also time for the FO to put their next evil plan in motion.

Think about how absolutely awful that is from a viewer standpoint though -- "Oh, remember all those adventures we had? Let's just talk about them/interrupt the 'present' story to see them."

I think the movie will be a direct continuation of TFA, with the possibility that there'll be some sort of "time jump" part way through the movie.

So there will be no time gap between episodes? Interesting...

The only issue there is that we ended TFA with both Kylo and Finn injured and out of commission. Which is a bit problematic in terms of moving the story on.

Not necessarily? Rey could be meditating or something and she briefly recalls their first meeting or something. That could happen very early in the film not interrupting any present events.
And you're still left with the problem of the crawl literally being just a recap of TFA if they don't do a time jump...

Laura Dern = Mara Jade (or other name for Luke's wife)?

There were two rumours: One, that they gave Poe more screen time; and, two, that Boyega had chemistry test with a new young female actress.

Until we see the film and can compare it to an early version of the script, we don't know whether Poe's role was beefed up.

The casting of a young woman does not confirm a rumour of a chemistry test, nor does a chemistry test necessarily imply romance; it could be looking for any sort of dynamic.

There's an entire galaxy outside the direct events of TFA/that don't deal with the attack on Starkiller Base -- we don't even really know how much time passed in-between the battle and Rey's departure for Ahch-To.

I could be wrong, but I'm willing to bet the crawl is all about the destruction of the Republic's capital and the political turmoil in the aftermath. Someone on Reddit posted a theory that the beginning of VIII will be from Luke's perspective, which might be an interesting way to frame the end of TFA.

How long did they stare at each other? Wasn't it overcast and cloudy when she came up to him at the end of TFA? The above clip looks quite sunny...
