The fact that the SW.com article specifically mentions Luke Skywalker along with Poe, Finn and Rey makes me think that, yes, we'll have more Luke this time.

 

They had Luke disappear for a reason. There is no way that Luke is not going to be featured prominently.

 

Was this ever really in doubt after the build up to Luke in TFA, and its ending?

I think the scene shows her offering Luke the lightsabre a second time after he may have refused to take it after the last scene of TFA
IMO it is possible Luke will send her away at the beginning of the movie and she comes back a second time offering the lightsabre again

I have no problem being proven wrong in this case. Indeed I would be the happiest person ever.

 

In celebration of this news today, I think everyone should change their avatars to something Luke-related. I've gone with Luke riding Godzilla, which shows that I'm excited about both Luke in Episode 8 and Gareth Edwards' Rogue One.

Also, I gotta say that I'm super happy that the first Episode VIII related video has Luke in it. This bodes well.

I would also love to see a shot of Rey from TFA next to the shot released today...

 

I'm pretty sure this footage was either shot last September when Rian Johnson and crew were on Skellig, or was alternate angles/takes from TFA. If this footage is actually in Episode VIII, I highly doubt it will be the opening shot. More likely we'll get a space scene (perhaps wounded Kylo getting shuttled around various ships and delivered to Snoke) first before cutting to this. If there's a traditional gap in time, maybe it will occur after these opening sequences, in which we cut back to Finn and the Resistance.

 

From a marketing perspective, not having Luke in VII was a genius way to get people hyped about VIII. (As if they need a reason, but you know...)

 

I hope they keep it this way and no grey hair please. Luke is just 53 and that's not old.

 

This will be Luke's movie in the same way VII was Han's. I expect Luke will be killed off in the final act through.

But he'll rise again "more powerful than we can possibly imagine" in IX!

I don't think they'll kill off Luke or Leia. No one wants to see all their favorite OT characters all time. Then we'll rewatch the OT crying forever hahaha. Han wasn't killed just for shock value and lets be real here, a good part of why he was killed is because of Harrison Ford.

 

Ep 7's ending is screaming for immediate resolution...they have to address it asap!
