I think it has elements of all three. Noir, slasher and commentary, although the commentary is more pronounced in the sequel. There is some deliberate symbolism in how Sarah is more cold and calculated in the sequel because of her determination for her mission and is typically lit in a cold blue light in her more determined scenes, while Arnold gradually becomes more human in his demeanor and through the run of the movie is eventually more often lit in a warm light. Of course, a lot of people think the sequel is pretentious...

But I'm not one of those people.

Considering no one has mentioned it, it's logic more than anything. Tough for you, I know.

Not that it is any better of a portrayal of artificial intelligence than the films previously mentioned, but I wanted to add Minority Report.

Also the movie Her, the one where Joaquin Phoenix falls in love with a computer program, is an interesting take on artificial intelligence without the whole dystopian future angle.

Anyone seen Robot and Frank? Good, simple little premise in the not too distant future about a robot caretaker that an ageing cat burglar befriends.

How have you not nominated World of Tomorrow, Rylo Ken or do you not consider it valid as it's more cloney than roboty?

I guess the grandfather in the box and the poetry writing moon robots ought to qualify it. I am truly sorry about the oversight.
