I remember back in '93 in the Marvel Comics Bullpen Bulletins (or something else like that in one of their comics), one of their editors made an "Jurassic Park is just Westworld with dinosaurs" kind-of comment.

Sour grapes over not getting the comic book license?

I told you, I know it isn't a popular opinion. You know those commercials where they say "9 out 10 people prefer "X" to "Y"..."? I'm that 10th person.

Which isn't to say I think it's a bad movie, I just don't think it's the classic %99.657 of the population of planet Earth seem to think it is.

Anthony Hopkins is playing the human boss. I am looking forward to this.

Someone should change the title of this thread to "Westworld (HBO series)" or something, because it's not really a reboot of the movie and it's a little misleading. If HBO was in the thread title, more people would click it.

I don't know anything about Westworld. The first mention of it that I recall hearing occurred when Kevin Smith was talking about the casting call for the show on his podcast, which the headline was:

Westworld casting call for 'genital to genital touching' lands HBO in hot water.

 

It's not bad. It's adapted from a Michael Crichton book, where the exhibits at a theme park get out of control...

 

Oh are you referring to The Andromeda Strain where killer gorillas hijack a submarine and make contact with a mysterious alien force?

 

Considering these were the brainchildren behind Person of Interest you know I'm looking forward to this...

 

Yeah, J.J. and Jonathan Nolan's involvement is pretty much what's going to draw me to this show as well. Person of Interest is a stroke of genius.

 

Another huge PoI fan (you can see one of the former guest stars in the trailer) so now they're upgrading from killer computer AI to Killer Naked Old West Robots: the TV series. Which I am totally okay with. Also Evan Rachel Wood and Ed Harris and Anthony Hopkins! I restate, robots and Evan Rachel Wood!

 

Looks interesting, though it was a major buzzkill to find out that Ramin Djawadi was the composer. These shows can afford huge stars like Anthony Hopkins but the music budget doesn't extend much further than :"Hans Zimmer leftovers".

 

Djawadi does the music for Person Of Interest and the music there is awesome (and in Game of Thrones he has very distinct themes for various plotlines). He's solid. Heck, his Warcraft score made it seem better than it actually was in places.

 

Yeah, listen to the Person of Interest soundtrack....it's the best I've ever heard for a TV show. And he did a great job on the first Iron Man movie too. His style doesn't remind me of Hans Zimmer at all.

 

Hmm Djawadi doing soundtrack is a definite plus. This series looks very interesting. Looking forward to it.

 

Not a fan of his Game of Thrones scores. There are glimpses of some nice period accurate instrumentation but the bulk of the underscore is distractingly modern. It's funny because you hear Djawadi talking in interviews about minimizing the use of woodwinds in the score to maintain "period accuracy" despite using the synthiest synths that ever synthed.
Besides that, the music is dull as dishwater with fairly bland themes and underscore that does little to enhance the images they accompany.

Haven't heard Person of Interest though.

 

Djawadi is one of the best composers working today. His music really feels distinctive in a way few scores do, and everything I've heard from him has perfectly suited the material.
