I like that idea a lot, and can picture a similarly 70s-vibed Starsky & Hutch-style show about smugglers & bounty hunters, without much Force/Jedi/fate-of-the-universe-hanging-in-the-balance action. Maybe they would be part of the same show you are describing.

Not gonna happen... And honestly I don't really want it to I think Star Wars is made more for families and I'd like to keep it that way

However if this was an M rated video game like 1313 well that's a different story..

Nah, Star Wars is for eight-year old boys. No one else could possibly be interested.

I agree with most people here. Let Star Wars be Star Wars and Game of Thrones be Game of Thrones.

If you want a grimdark sci-fi show with torture porn and entire episodes focusing on which characters are bonking who then I'd rather they come up with an original franchise for that rather than turn Star Wars into something it's not.

They did make a Star Wars porn parody though, so if you really need your fix...

OK, sex and too much violence are really not needed. However, i would like to have a series with more complex relationships, great variety of setiings and unpredictable plot..... Unless it would mean to discover that Palpatine was actually taught by Rumplestiltskin.

I think there will be a live action star wars series at some point but I imagine it will probably have rated 12 type content- mature but kids can still watch.

ABC is doing a live action series. This was revealed last year at the TCA's, it's just very early in development. And SW does not need sex and excessive violence. No doubt there is sex in the galaxy far, far away, but it doesn't need to be blatantly like an HBO program. Some people really want SW to be some NC-17 ordeal, whereas it was never intended to be that. It's an all ages thing.

A serious and mature series just like Game of Thrones-only differences would be very little to no sex at all, less gore and less swearing. That's what I'd like to see from a SW TV show for adults only. We have the animated TV shows like TCW and Rebels for the kids, and the movies that are family friendly. This way you have something for everyone.

I don't necessarily want to see a gritty Star Wars show in the vein of Battlestar Galactica. But even something just that captures the tone of ANH and ESB would be nice, without putting it on DisneyXD, making the villains goofy, or the over-the-top cartoon antics (like Sabine jumping on stormtrooper's heads, dancing through blaster fire like there's no danger, stories about bonding over a trip to fetch fruit, etc).

They put cartoons on Cartoon Network and DisneyXD and then rationalize it that the shows are of such quality that even adults can enjoy it. But in the US anyway, cartoons tend to fall into two categories - lighthearted adventure/comedies for kids (e.g. Spongebob, Sonic, Ultimate Spider-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fairly Odd Parents) and comedic adult cartoons (Family Guy, Archer, South Park, Futurama). Now there are outliers - notably anything that Pixar does - but that's the basic breakdown, IMO. And while there are niche audiences that do appreciate anime dramas, I wouldn't say that it's very widespread.

The vast majority of adults would probably never watch Ultimate Spider-Man, even if it was very well reviewed, because it's a cartoon on Disney. Many adults did however go see the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films which were filled with campy humor. It was live action. And many adults tuned in to watch Agents of Shield when it premiered (I don't know how well it's holding up currently). This was again live action, and also on ABC.

There is a stigma with watching cartoons for the most part. I will confess that I would never admit publicly admit to watching Rebels, if someone asked me what TV shows I watched. But I'd feel no shame in saying I watched Galavant. And I think alot of that is the channel and medium. I watch a live action comedy musical on ABC isn't going to carry the same impression as me watching a Star Wars cartoon on DisneyXD.

Now of course there are hardcore fans here that will read Star Wars, watch Star Wars, or play Star Wars in whatever medium. But for the millions of people out there above the age of 15 of whatever, you're not going to be drawing them into Star Wars with a cartoon on DisneyXD. Maybe a cartoon on ABC. But as I mentioned in another thread, I worked a retail job over the holiday season and we did have this large Inquisitor dolls on display for sale, and I heard quite a few people look at it and wonder who the hell that was. There's probably a whole bunch of adults that don't even know there's a Star Wars show on the air.

I don't want or need to see something of Game of Thrones intensity or something with a particularly dark tone. But just capture the tone of ANH and/or ESB, put it into a live action show, and advertise and air that show on a station where people will actually watch it, and you'll probably draw in a whole hell of a lot of adults (and kids) for at least the premiere, and then whomever they hold onto as an audience beyond that will likely be dependent on how well it's written.

I'd like a Star Wars show targeted towards teens/adults. And I Do NOT mean stuff with sex. Keep that out of star wars.
I am talking about something more mature without slap-stick humor.

I want something with deeper story telling and NOT just a bunch of action with the kids as the heroes to suit a the short attention span of many kids.

I want something with emotions and good drama with good dialogue. The little kids have something. Although I'd really like a "mature' anime more than a live action, I am open to the idea of live action

For me mature DOES NOT mean sex and violence with cussing. I'd like something that's gets into the details and isn't watered down.

I'd really like something between the ANH and ESB or ESB and ROTJ, focusing on Luke. With emotional conflict and a difficult struggle against the Empire, where it's not just easy hero wins. Show him mature as he fights on in a war with many losses. Also show the Imperial side at times with Vader. Show the struggles of characters as they fight on trying not to lose hope. Show the bad times as well as the good. The sadness, anger, regret, hope, love, loss, and happiness. And don't just have the heroes do all the work and make the "regular guys" weak. Show the many sides of war.

A Obi-wan prequel featuring the mission to Mandalore would be nice too.

P.S And if they do a live action SW show. Please absolutely no women who's only function is sex appeal. No more slave dancers. And don't give Luke some ditsy girlfriend. Let's have some intellectual women in here. The OT was really lacking good female characters as much as I like that era.

A reason it might never happen: merchandise (especially toys) sales

Yes, adults will buy for collection purposes but not in the sheer numbers parents would for their children. Rebels and TCW showed it was possible to appeal to an older audience, whilst having a overall child friendly product.

But saying that, Star Wars: Underworld will eventually happen.

Perhaps a more adult animated show.

    Star Wars: Jedi Purge

Picks up soon after ROTS and focuses on Vaders hunt (with the help of clones) on jedi survivors, Empire growing, and those who try to fight back, but often fail. Let separatists hold outs appear to.

Also a good chance to see Republic tech being used by the Empire.

I do think early dark times, is a time period that has potential for further development.

It's not like Disney is coming out with any live action shows yet. They probably won't do anything like that until the animated show (s) have finished airing.

I would love a show in the vein of House of Cards featuring a young Palpatine. Show him putting all the pieces into place for his rise to power leading all the way up to TPM. We could see him training under Plagueis and eventually usurping him. See him discover Maul and begin his training. Throw in a young Count Dooku too if you like. It could even end with his election to Chancellor since we didn't actually see that in TPM.

Just do the Woke Up This Morning intro from The Sopranos but put it on a spaceship and make it about Becket. That could work for being an adult TeeVEE show!
