I'm actually not even speaking from personal experience. Just from what I have witnessed and observations is all.

 

So what is the status of the software update and search function?

 

Still working on it, there's some functionality we have to handle manually.

Not to necro-post, but is this still being worked on? I was a little shocked to find that there was no search function on the boards.

 

It depends on our forum migration to a more powerful server. The search is a resource hog which was causing us problems at busy times on the boards. You can get around it via Google. Just add site:boards.theforce.net to any search. For example, Snax Rebo site:boards.theforce.net

It still has some issues - you can't search on a member's content at this time - but otherwise it's there.

 

It also seems like the search feature is now unable to pick up anything from after sometime in 2015 (likely when it was originally disabled). Tested this just now.

 

man, I was counting it to find all my old fanfics.
If it can't find anything before 2015, google is useless.

 

I can't edit the above post because of time elasped.

I was able to use the google command above and get maybe 10 of my fanfic back. Unfortunately they are truncated. [sidiious] All of them [/sidious]. They are truncated at the 3500 words range not the 10000 promised!

Anyway, It was a trip down memory lane. I'm afraid I won't ever be able to write chapters that long again. [yoda] Too old, yes too old to write like that [/yoda]

 

Marty - have you tried Google for that? Search on the user name you used at that time and limit it by site:boards.theforce.net. Example -
MartyAvidianus site:boards.theforce.net .

Edit - can you give me a link to one of the truncated posts? I'll take a look.

 

I believe that's because the indexing doesn't finish due to a bug I'm hitting - it gets to a certain point then dies every time. I would love to troubleshoot it with Xen/ES support but they'll just say to upgrade Xenforo to one that's not 5 years old. Around and around we go.

 

I've whacked Watched Threads by accident going to refresh What's New, which I keep on a separate tab when I'm logged in. I use it to check for spammers that might have gotten past the New Users approvals.

 

Any updates on not being able to view post history?

 

I believe Grahame tried to find a fix for it but it looks like it might have to wait til we upgrade our software. He was lucky to get an older version of ES working at all with our ancient version of Xenforo.
