Sarco Plank, Constable Zuvio, and a desert speeder chase. Now I have Sarco and Zuvio just cruising around and chatting in Finn's speeder, True Detective style. Or like Crockett and Tubbs, Bo and Luke, Starsky and Hutch, Simon and Simon, Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Lenny and Squiggy, Cheech and Chong, or Harold and Kumar.

Before I knew anything about TFA I was expecting but did not see...

    • More Luke
    • Lando
    • A Luke, Han, Leia, Lando reunion
    • Some sense of continuity with ROTJ
    • An original story
    • Force ghosts...there had been force ghosts in episodes 5 and 6 and somewhat in 4.

    Mon Mothma!

This is more of a missed opportunity (especially since RO included her) but having Mon Mothma there on that balcony on Chandrilla (sp?) would have really tied the films together and made me care when it got destroyed... I believe she became Chancellor after Palpatine was killed and she could have had a very long run (like the Queen of England) and the actress is still available! [face_dunno]

Her character would then be in her 80's or 90's. And if the New Republic only had one leader for its entire history, that would not be a good sign.

Also, if you read the book Bloodline, Mon Mothma leaving the Senate is actually one of the causes of the First Order.

The actress was born in 1933...so at the time of filming TFA in 2014 she would have been 81. Oh well... I haven't read bloodline - Any good??

    Bloodline is very good.

And I was talking about the character Mon Mothma, who in ROTJ always looked like she was in her 50's.

Basically the only thing I knew about the movie going into the first viewing was the title. I was thinking the movie would show the transition from the Force being basically dormant, to taking a more active role in the galaxy with a plethora of people discovery their ability to use the Force for good or evil.

I felt that was tacitly covered by the movie. Luke attempted to restore a the old order by training a "class" of Jedi . Was he really equipped or wise to do that? Should he have tried? Should he have only trained one Jedi to begin with? One who's initiation with the force and suitability as Jedi seemed destined above all other candidates? It appears he bit off more than he could chew and didn't have anyone to watch his back.

I think TFA proposes this alternative over the course of its plot. Although it does not depict several users awakening to the force at once. It does depict at least one and ends with this standout individual reconnecting with Luke in exile.

I expected Phasma to play a larger part.

I wanted the big three together. I think that's why Han's death affected me so much - not just losing him, but losing him, Luke and Leia together again. After he died it was like a double whammy hit to my gut and emotions.

I thought the idea of the Force awakening would suggest some deeper insight into the Force itself, not merely the literal sense of it awakening within Rey, or the alternate meaning of a force (The First Order) arising in power.

I thought that was actually conveyed to a degree. This is probably demonstrated best by the fact that the film, with Rey and Ren's oppsitie trajectories throughout it, has disturbed some fans to the extent that they feel that the perceived practical certainties of the force, of force users and the kind of storylines and the kind of character development that they believe are either permitted or are proscribed by these certainties has been undermined by the film and the role that the force plays in it.

That impression was confirmed to me by Rick Carter's comments about the development of TFA and how at meetings the question that was constantly being raised and the concept that was most compelling to the people involved was "How strong is the force?"
