Ah yes, a Bay star wars film where every shot contains a new republic flag while the main hero (white male) drinks down his shameless branded glass of blue milk and ogles at his badly acted scantily clad twi'lek companion while ignoring his racist sterotype astromech.

Watch what you say here, everybody. SG66 is obviously Michael Bay's sock. You heard it here first.

Just tweeted Pablo asking him about the ships around the Profundity and that Nebulon-B that was being pounded by Darth Vader's Devastator.

I asked if it's fair to assume that those ships made it into hyperspace. Judging from the lack of debris from other ships as the Tantive IV as it made its escape and the seeming attention Vader's guns were giving the Profundity, it wouldn't surprise me that the remaining ships got out. That Nebulon-B was just unlucky to be in the way as Vader arrived.

I'd like that. Having half the fleet wiped out on the retreat and victory conditions for the battle not really met yet (getting the plans to safety is obviously still up in the air at the beginning of ANH) wouldn't sound like a proper "first victory".

I have to admit that two star destroyers, a shield gate installation, and in consequence the entire Imperial presence on the planet (thanks to Tarkin's assist) is a pretty good result for a strategy game campaign. That's close to a map wiped clean, especially if you see Vader and Tarkin's presence as a non-changeable cutscene. ;) Blast, sometimes I miss Force Commander. Or Age of Empires 1, for that matter.

The novelization shows that the Devastator focused on the Profundity too. It's also implied that Raddus covered the retreat of his fleet. Regardless, there is nothing in the movie or novelization that shows the rest of the fleet was destroyed. The only confirmed losses we see on screen are the Profundity, one Nebulon-B, one Hammerhead, and one GR75. These losses are still pretty significant in relation to the size of the fleet the Rebels bring to Scarif. We see the following in RO:

    x1 MC75 Profundity
    x2 Nebulon-B escort frigate
    x3 Hammerhead-class corvette
    x4-5 CR90 corvettes
    x2 Dornean gunships
    x7 GR75 transports

    TOTAL: ~19-20 ships

On ships alone, the Rebels lost 20% of the fleet at Scarif. In terms of raw firepower, probably closer to 50% or more when you consider the loss of the Profundity and one of the frigates.

It was the first victory of the Alliance, but it was still costly no matter what.

Can't wait for the DVD release, to try and work out exactly what the fleet is made up of.

However, there's a shot as the ships come out of hyperspace where there's clearly three Nebulon-B Frigates. Quite possibly during "Blue Leader standing by", as Blue Squadron flies past the Profundity.

Not so sure about a third. I've watched it several times, every shot I can find online shows a max of two:

Great catch! Three frigate and 2-3 times as many assorted corvettes escorting a single cruiser makes good sense. Like an old battle line from the RASB.

I named my NCAA Bracket "Rebellions are built on hope!" which one could say is a tribute to Cassian but I definitely still have Jyn's delivery of it going through my head whenever I read it. In theory, I will succeed in my NCAA picks but I'll die rather horribly yet with a sense of accomplishment.

Yeah Jyn's delivery is one that sticks in your mind cause the trailer but I love Cassian's grin as he says it. This guy does so many terrible things but he still has hope that they will lead to a better galaxy.

My bracket names were usually less of a tribute... Like the year I named mine "The Aluminum Falcon."

This is cool... the end of R1 melded to the beginning of ANH:

And for everyone who complained about Leia's ship not being directly "beamed" the transmissions... rewatching early ANH here shows Vader being told that there were no transmissions sent to the ship, after talking to Leia. That could also explain why Vader didn't Force-grab the disk during the end of R1... he didn't know those were the plans, he just assumed the ship in the hangar (the Tantive IV) also received the transmissions. So both Vader and Leia are telling what they think is the truth during that exchange... from a certain point of view.
(though Leia's claim of being on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan is still complete BS... and now we know how Vader know, it calls it out, why he's so pissed at that blatant lie.) It really does mesh really well.

He also changed it himself when it was still in rough drafts, for his own reasons that them surviving didn't feel right, and that it was never filmed.

What is also interesting is that it says in the Entertainment Weekly link that Jyn was a current Rebel soldier at the start of the movie. I'd imagine that was a storyline that didn't get dropped for awhile and might explain why her personality seemed a lot different during the trailers.

I think it might be accurate to say that a good part of the reshoots were to make Jyn a more likeable protagonist.

I always thought that officer meant "sent from this ship". Wouldn't he have meant "received"?

I think you're right. If memory serves, in that scene, they're talking about how the plans aren't in the ship's computer and the computer didn't send any messages, ergo the Rebels didn't email it to others. Wasn't it the same scene were the officer reports the launched escape pod and Vader reasons that the plans may have been hidden on it?

Personally, even if it's not right that Vader mistakenly assumed that the plans were emailed to the ship instead of being brought onboard with a jump drive at this point, the spirit of the conversation is the same ("I know you were given the plans. Where are they?" "I had nothing to do with it." "You're lying. Arrest her!"). I don't see how it's a real problem.

    Yeah, that's the part.

The scene with the ship's captain being strangled, has them using other words:

Stormtrooper: The Death Star plans are not in the main computer.
Darth Vader: Where are those transmissions you intercepted? What have you done with those plans?
Rebel Officer: We intercepted no transmissions. This is a consular ship. We're on a diplomatic mission...

Rogue One would technically make the captain correct.

Oh, right. Still, I say no biggie, given the point is that Vader knows the ship was carrying the information, the crew knows that he knows, and they're lying since they have nothing else they can do. The details aren't that important.

Did Vader know? I think it's his best guess, especially if a search of the computer logs for the Profundity showed that the plans were downloaded mere seconds before the Tantive IV took off. Vader didn't seem to realize what it was the officer had that he was trying to shove through the door, or he would have whipped it into his hand, and been done with it.
