Rats, beat me to it This sounds super interesting, especially with authors like John Jackson Miller and Claudia Gray involved. Chuck Wendig and others have been Tweeting about it too, although they haven't confirmed direct involvement.

 

And me!! oh well. My guess it's a luke skywalker short story collection .

 

That would be my guess as well. Presumably they've got something in the pipeline to fill the current Luke-shaped gap, and likely timed with The Last Jedi.

Many in-universe retellings of the Influential Galactic Historical Epic, "The Little Lost Bantha Cub Calf!" As adapted and told to Young Ben (with competing morals) by Leia, Han, Luke, Lando, Snoke, Chewbacca, Threepio, Obi-Wan's Ghost, etc.

 

Ah, the return of the short stories anthologies!

 

With that many authors involved you know it is going to be a collection of short stories. Unless of course they are starting a 20 book series like the NJO was.

People on the Del Rey facebook page are speculating that it is going to be another lengthy type series (i.e. FOTJ or LOTF).

 

The Star Wars Books account specified "book" singular, not plural, despite it being called a "project". Short story anthology fits better than a series.

 

Reading comprehension is a vital skill.

 

That plus the fact that one of the authors already said its short stories haha

 

It's definitely about Salacious Crumb. My sources tell me that the short story collection is capped off by a novella length story by Matthew Stover, detailing the true depravity of Crumb's fall. Interestingly, it will be the first Star Wars story not recommended for children below 17.

Surprised they didn't wait until Celebration to announce it. Guess they announce it now so by the time Celebration roles around people can think of questions to ask at the panel.

 

Please no more Aftermath-style stories. I can only hope Wendig is not involved.

Edit: Weeps at Wendig. I guess we'll get more 21st Century reality-tv show inspired first person drama. Probably just skip that story altogether.

 

Weird comment, seeing that most of those who consistently hated on Wendig tended to say the Interludes (basically short stories in their own right) were the most enjoyable part of the book for them.

Also, none of his SW books were in First Person. That was Hearne.

 

I loved the concept of the Interludes for sure. I do not enjoy his writing style and think he has a poor grasp of how to write and capture the feel of Star Wars.

 

With all the hate Wendig's style gets, I was expecting to be really put off by him... but I went in and found I really enjoyed his style. He's basically if Joss Whedon wrote a book, and he has a very colorful descriptive style (he did go a little overboard with the similes for my taste, but it didn't take me out of it). I'm not exaggerating when I say listening to the audiobook versions was one of the best EU experiences I've had: it was basically like listening to an audio drama. Mark Thompson is a treasure.

 

Same! Really hope this project is given the audio treatment. It's my key source for absorbing new SW fiction. I get to read through it faster than if on Kindle, and I'm trying to keep my SW physical books down chiefly to ones with nifty interior art as part of their makeup.
