The Leia one is being described consistently as YA but I'm unclear if this is the same deal or middle-grade a la Servants of the Empire.

Sounds like the Before the Awakening of this project.
A pre ANH story, something between ANH and ESB, one between ESB and ROTJ and then one or two between ROTJ and TFA.

I've read Ken Liu - it's kind of hard to picture him doing middle-grade.

Hamill said during the TLJ panel that there was bound to be a book or comic explaining his absence in TFA ;)

I'm sure it will be YA in the same vein as Claudia Grey's other two books: YA, but still very high quality

I hope this is YA or adult. Glad Luke is getting some content!

YA so far has referred to Lost Stars by Claudia Gray and Ahsoka by E.K. Johnson. Claudia Gray's other Star Wars title was a regular Del Rey adult-targeted novel. I would imagine the Leia book would be similar to Lost Stars and Ahsoka in terms of length, prose, and plotting, while the Luke book, which does not say YA in the designation, would be more similar to Weapon of a Jedi and the other JTTFA Disney-Lucasfilm Press books.

Surely not, they were junior readers

Does it really matter what the age designation is if the story's good? I'd say there's sufficient examples from the new material to say it doesn't.

I've got utter confidence in Claudia Gray. And man, Ken Liu sounds to be *such* a fan :) Delightful post :)

I must say, I really wish Claudia was doing the Luke book. Would love to see her take on the character.

That's my point. Disney-Lucasfilm Press publishes primarily Junior Readers. The Leia book says YA, so we know that's an exception. Unless they said something different at the panel (I'm not at celebration) that's what I'd expect

I fear this book is just going to be a character (probably threepio) re-telling the events of OT with a focus on Luke

You know, everyone is getting excited for the return of Luke's green saber, but I'm more hopeful that he's got his X-Wing stashed on Ach-to somewhere.

Any more specific thoughts on Ken Liu? I'm super curious about him now, but I don't know when I'd be able to read any of his work.

The cover doesn't scream "adult." It looks more like a kid's picture book...yet Liu is too good an author for that. Maybe it'll be an anthology, many story threads that attempt to define his titular legend, humorously told to him, while in disguise and end route to Ach-to.

Sort of like the Batman: TAS episode, Almost got him (or whatever it was called).

I'm not sure why an author being good means they can't do a kid's book.

Well when I ask that what I'm really getting at is "how long will this be?", or more specifically, "can I read this in less than three weeks?"

Anyone noticed the silver protocol droid on the cover? It's stood next to R2 like Threepio but it's colour scheme is all wrong. Maybe it's sort of the narrator of the book, telling a listener of "The legends of Luke Skywalker"
