I've never played the Rebellion video game, but I love the board game version Fantasy Flight made.

Going back to the original mention of Sullustan regiments, if the book really does focus on "off screen" parts of battles, we just might get some alien regiments joining in on Hoth or Endor.

PLAY Rebellion. Seriously. If you get the Map Editor, you can also make the galaxy into a canon map. It takes some work, but it is SO worth it.

It doesn't work well on Windows 10, as best as can tell. :(

RE: alien regiments, I actually prefer mixed species stuff like we are seeing in the NEU. The galaxy is cosmopolitan and these species have been interacting together for thousands of years. I don't see any reason a regiment of soliders can't contain humans, Mon Cala, Sullustan, Duros, and Bothans.

If you say so, I'll definitely give it a try some weekend.

Yeah "mixed species" groups of rebels would definitely be preferable to emphasize the diverse nature of the Rebellion. Though I could definitely see cases where a regiment would be all or mostly composed of aliens, eg. a Bothan rebel cell in Bothan space, or a Mon Cal group that specializes in underwater warfare or Sullustans who specialize in volcanic battelfields.

If anything I'd imagine this book would go with the "mixed species" idea, unless they decide to retcon in a group of cold-weather specialist Talz Rebels on Hoth or something.

Just to warn you, the initial learning curve is quite steep and the interface is a bit clunky, but once you understand the game it's a hell of a lot of fun. I highly recommend putting the game on 'very slow' for the first several days to give you chance to learn and get everything up and running.

Also save the game once the droids have finished nattering on about everything at the start so you can just load up that save and skip all that when you want to start over. From memory there wasn't an option to skip it, as others said it is a bit clunky at times but is a great game once you get into it with lots of familiar faces from the EU.

I hope when they get to the Hoth page, it will have pictures of the landing craft, Juggernauts and floating artillery the Empire brought along.

I know Juggernauts were mentioned in Twilight Company (and IIRC there were Juggernauts on Hoth in the now Legends Star Wars:Visionaries), but where was floating artillery ever mentioned? I'm usually fine with off screen units, but I feel like if the Imps had artillery they'd have been able to blow up the shield generator from a distance instead of marching the AT-ATs over to it.

You can just delete the briefing .dlls :p

It would be boring loading up an identical save each time you wanted to play.

Any word if this book might give us our first image of the Nadiri Mark One Starhawk Battleship used by the New Galactic Republic?

Awesome! I believe that's our first good look at the First Order walker glimpsed on Starkiller Base! Looks like it's called an AT-PO.

EDIT: Actually the more I look at it, the less it looks like what we saw in the movie...

Looks like the drunken love child of an AT-AT and one of those separatist cannons from TCW:p

Wow, I like the artwork. Its about time we got a new in-universe reference book with actual art as oppose to just using stills from the films.

I followed the link to the German Amazon page but I'm not seeing any preview images, just the front and back cover.

The new walker (AT-PO): I'm not opposed to the design, but it's weird backward knees creep me out. Maybe it looks more natural when its moving, I'm imagining a sort of crab-walk.

Also, you might remember that there are TWO times we see walkers in TFA. We see the "Base defense Walkers" off to the side when Hux is giving his rally speech, but we also see some walkers in the distance during this shot:

I'm guessing that these specks are supposed to be AT-POs

Nice catch. It appears you are absolutely right. Here's a higher-res version of that picture that makes it pretty obvious.

However you slice it, they're the same as the rest of the First Order - ugly bastards.

    Thanks!

Agreed. The Visual Dictionaries are nice and all, but there's something about a reference book with hand drawn art that makes them stand out. It's nice to look at and speaks to the effort put into the book. I think it's part of why I loved the "New Essential Guide" series.

It is interesting that the First Order somehow abandons any elegance in the Imperial aesthetic for sheer brutishness.

I mean, compare the Lambda Shuttle to Kylo's version for goodness sake.

Though I'll point out that the Visual Dictionaries do have promotional photography that we really would never see anywhere else.

The pictures of Coruscant in the Rogue One Visual Guide haunt me. I want them. But that book is the only place we get those particular shots.

True, photographs can offer unique shots and allow us to see more costuming details up close. Like I said, I can appreciate the photography of the visual guides, but I just prefer art more.

I dunno - if anything, what has bugged me about the FO aesthetics is them going with an overly elegant, iPod look rather than the more lived in look of most of star wars - even imperial uniforms and machines had all these little bits and doodads on them....
