Don't forget the decraniated from Rogue One - if anyone needs a comfort ewok, it is them.

(As for the eaten stormies - don't forget that it is well documented that imperials enjoy eating sapient species such as whaladons. What goes around comes around. :p)

Prior to the release of The Force Awakens I used to "predict" that the villain of the sequel trilogy would be Wicket W. Warrick. I still hold that it's the only sequel to Return of the Jedi that makes any sense.

The Emperor knew what he was doing constructing the second Death Star there. The Ewoks have been completely cut off from galactic civilization until they meet the Empire, which is the only thing that has saved the galaxy from their reign of terror.

We know that they are ruthless warriors shaped by a world that is as violent as it is beautiful. Even if we ignore the Ewok movies, the fact that they have filled their forests with weaponry and traps seemingly designed to fight walkers means that either the Empire has been there for some time, and they were already preparing for war before the Rebellion arrived, or that there is something else on their world the size of an AT-ST that is trying to eat them. And they not only survive but thrive in that environment.

We know that they are extremely clever. They've given themselves the power of flight at a time in their development well before humanity on Earth did. They learn to operate blasters and speeder bikes and Imperial walkers alarmingly fast; imagine what they'll do the first time they get on board a working starship.

And we know that they eat people. And what is the galaxy full of after decades (arguably centuries) of human-centric cultured?

Wicket is a hungry young Ewok and he's just been told that the stars hold a nearly endless smorgasbord of the most delicious meat his people have ever tasted. Soon after he learns that his god is nothing more than a piece of technology that the Rebellion used to deceive him and his people, to convince them to lay down their lives for a foreign cause. By the time we resume our story, thirty years later, he is absolute ruler of a quarter of the galaxy.

And he is still absolutely adorable.

Reminds me of Bilbo reading the Dwarves' contract in the Hobbit movies.

    "Laceration? Evisceration? ....Incineration?"
"Oh, aye, he'll melt the flesh off your bones in the blink of an eye."

    I'm guessing

The captain Antilles story will probably explain how he got caught by Vader. It'd be cool if the story mentions his service in ROTS "I have protected the royal house of Alderaan from the fall of the Jedi order to the battle of Scariff, I'll never betray the princess!" I also hope we get an explanation on why the hell Vader crushed his windpipe physically instead of using the force...

I'm definitely interested in this anthology just due to range of authors here, especially those like Nnedi Okorafor and Ken Liu. Meg Cabot is also an interesting choice, and Wil Wheaton will at least be a novelty factor. But to be honest, really am not interested in Ashley Eckstein or Pablo Hidalgo.

The dianoga is an Order 66 survivor. It pulled down Luke in order to save him from the trash compactor. ;)

I mean Luceno and Zahn are a must have. Especially Zahn formed the EU and did an important job for Star Wars in the 90s. I would be suprised and disappointed if we don't see those guys...

...and get a random story form Wil Wheaton instead.

I wonder if anyone was offered to do a story and turned it down?

On the old Dark Horse forums (RIP) Stradley once mentioned that Frank Miller was asked if he wanted to do something for Star Wars Tales, but turned it down. But other than someone of his level of crotchedyness, I can't imagine many creators (especially the sorts likely to be approached by Disney) would turn down an offer to do an official Star Wars thing, especially since it's only a short story.
