but yes i was thinking time jump AND that hux's sideburns are confirmation that he's alive after the time jump. so if snoke kills him it's not because of TFA "failures." we'll see if snoke is discerning enough to figure out who failed where, and i'd be interested in how he responds to that. reprimands? punishment? payment? execution?

also, hux's survival bodes well for millicent. [face_love]
*clears throat* phasma! otherwise agree completely (as i think i've agreed with you in the past about hux and why he's the one snoke should keep).
hux actually seemed like snoke's favorite to me. but maybe you're right. hux is like the perfect child, but no matter how perfect somehow snoke often seems displeased. snoke dotes upon kylo with praise (to manipulate him) but kylo knows hux is way more competent/efficient (not a screw-up) and i'm sure it makes him feel inadequate by comparison. snoke fuels the rivalry between them and enjoys both of their suffering. he thinks keeping them in competition ensures the best possible performances from each. (agree with the rest of your post haha)

I actually don't get that impression. Hux looks even more arch, aloof and severe than he did in TFA, but Kylo looks very rough and ready, like he's had the artifice stripped away. He's not as primped and put together as he was in TFA, whereas Hux seems to have doubled down on the immaculate military officer vibe.

Huh. In what I've seen, though, Kylo's outfit in TLJ is much cleaner. His tunic and cape in TFA were rough and irregularly-cut, while his tunic and cape in TLJ are sharper and straighter.

I was talking specifically about his appearance while unmasked, and I do think the contrast is evident there (not least in terms of the reduced volume of his hair).

Yeah, you know Kylo means business when he can't even be bothered to curl his hair

new kylo outfit looks more knight and official

i wouldn't bank on too much character development for Hux but i do sense a more grounded air about him from that one second BTS clip. he might be less of a cartoon villain, like less over the top nazi caricature and that would make me sad honestly

On the other hand though, the new uniforms make them look a lot more like nazis.

Maybe it's because of his age, but when I first saw The Force Awakens, I thought that Hux was connected to the main characters or was Force sensitive. He may be just another imperial officer that goes out in a space battle. That could happen in The Last Jed or IX, but I think there's room for more of the Kylo-Snoke-Hux dynamic.

I predict that Hux will either die in a space battle of at the hand of Kylo Ren (similar to Jerjerrod's originally intended Death in Rotj). He seems closer to Snoke than any of Palpatine's officers were to him, and I think that we'll see an arc similar to that abandoned concept.

I'd like to see him be killed by Finn. Wasn't Hux in charge of the Baby Stormtrooper program? He'd be raising Finn to eventually kill him. It's like poetry.

Can we talk about Hux's amazing super-fascist speeder?

I would kill for a scene of Hux driving around the Canto Bight set for 20 minutes looking for a parking spot.

Maybe that's what the cast means by saying this film's "different?"

There is a much greater emphasis on parking vehicles in this one.

Yeah, it's like a cross between Luke's Tatooine speeder (basic shape), the typical Benz "staff car" of many Nazi officers, an art deco concept car, and brutalist architecture.

Gets back to his speeder after a dramatic shootout in the Casino. A little ticket under his windshield wiper.
20 minute parking. $250 fine. "Ugh." Not his day.

Well, if that's Hux, he's got a date sitting right next to him. She's wearing a really elaborate tiara.

I find the idea of Hux on a date utterly hilarious.

Maybe Finn and Rose's casino mission gets compromised as they see Hux walking in with his lady friend? That sounds like fun.

I hope the crystal fox thing is her matching pet.

EDIT: Though having said fox, I just remembered there are races at Canto Bight and it could just as easily be the prey being chased.
