Census Cash - an elegant means of payment for a more civilised age.

It's online retailers and telecom providers that are considered some of the biggest tax dodging crooks in history. All they do is unashamedly refuse to pay.

 

I use the barter system.

 

I use a card for more expensive stuff like the weekly grocery shopping but if it's local (newspapers, pub) or I'm wandering around in town I'll use cash. Like Juliet posted above, I try to minimize the risk of identity theft or card cloning.

It's the corporations and multimillionaires that attempt to evade tax, not my window cleaner. If I pay someone to do a small job for me, I don't want the government taking some of it.

 

Sounds reasonable. Then again if everyone paid him/her that way your window cleaner may not pay any tax at all. Yet still get the use of the roads & parks & public schools that the rest of us do pay for.
Abolishing cash would also be a major blow to drug dealers & organised crime.

I pay with my card because I always fumble with cash due to social anxiety and the general fear that people are angrily staring at me fumbling.

 

Of course they would still pay tax. Income tax isn't the only tax. Organised crime uses bitcoin not cash.

If I had a job that paid barely more than minimum wage and absolutely no security in that position, I probably wouldn't choose to make some big heroic sacrifice on behalf of some guy changing his ticket randomly either. Welcome to your FREE MARKET.

 

That would only be the case if they were demanding to be paid in cash only, specifically to avoid tax.

Organised crime has increased and become easier thanks to Bitcoin. The drug dealers would just use bitcoin too if you took away cash. Sure it would take away the ability for the poorest people to buy drugs, but then it would also take away their ability to buy anything at all.

 

Robots don't make money though since they're considered second class citizens. I don't believe you.

 

Working in the hospitality/tourism industry (ie. high volume transactions), my experience has been the cards are far superior to cash. Even the trendy new phone-pay methods, while gimmicky and supposedly so neat, aren't nearly as routinely efficient has a good ol' plastic card.

I myself jumped on the smartphone payment method for a bit, but the results are so inconsistent and sometimes slower than simply swiping a card.

 

If I can't Venmo my waiter a tip, s/he doesn't deserve a tip. **** cash. Which is also what I tell the homeless people who come up to me. "Venmo?" I ask. They look back at me blankly. I shake my head sadly and walk away.

Why does it have to be one or the other? I use both, depending on the situation.... not a big deal.
