Yah, to be honest, TOS really didn't lean that hard into the whole non-religious society thing. That becomes more explicit in TNG. Which was a lot of Roddenberry's Trek utopia ideas are actually more fleshed out.

I think the better way to approach the Klingon differences would be to say that these Klingons were an attempt at undoing the Augment Virus and were treated more like the Remans were to the Romulans.

That would have been ideal- could still play into the differing houses thing if one was either the result of failed lab experiment test subjects or a house of mad scientists.

It's going to be rated TV-MA... I'm sure this'll end well...

This REALLY surprised me. I expected M/PG-13 (whatever happens to be the USA equivalent) but not quite that far. Isn't TV-MA used for Thrones and Daredevil?

Yep. TV-14 is what most of them I believe were rated, though TNG may have come in as TV-PG when it first aired.

    Jeez.

Remember the corridor scene in S2 of Daredevil were Frank Castle has an almost literal bloodbath when the prisoners come after him? I'm picturing an orgy of violence for any scene involving Klingons.

I don't care about sex in Trek and occasional violence. There's no reason for sex especially not to be in Trek (socialist utopia, no chance of unwanted pregnancy, only get an STD if you're out in the Delta Quadrant and are intermingling with the locals). I'm just not convinced yet that Discovery cares about being a Star Trek show.

Well, they have been talking about how they were exploring what the lack of broadcast restrictions would allow them to do- but then figuring how out if it would be appropriate for Trek.

No, in the US it will only be on CBS All Access (except for the first episode, which will air on CBS on the 24th)

that stinks I'm not planning on buying CBS All Access just to watch a Star Trek show. if it gets good buzz on the net I will buy it on Blu-ray ....

TVMA? Yes! Finally we can have (more) exploding heads in a Star Trek show!

I'm really looking forward to this actually. It'll be my first time watching a Star Trek show live, and I really want it to be good. The major thing I'm worried about is the serialized storytelling, I actually dig them stealing the aesthetics of JJ trek

Other than all the movies from both timelines I've only seen a good bit of TOS and all of TNG. DS9, Voyager and Enterprise are just so daunting to attempt to take on.

Watch DS9. Voyager has far fewer good/decent episodes and you shouldn't bother with Enterprise at all.

I mean, you're just sitting there watching TV, it's hardly daunting.
