Like srsly why was this not done yet. Why.

On the subject of Thrawn: It's such a slippery slope bringing him back. There's a reason he's a fan favorite. Dude is clever and classy as hell. He looks and acts weird to boot. Rebels could have made do with giving him a cameo here and there, but clearly they were bitten by the bug and couldn't stop, cuz Thrawn's such a fun scene stealer. But alas, now they used him to the point they have to give him a fate. Like the argument goes, it's either going to be death or... exile? Lead up to villain role in next TV series?

I would most prefer the latter. Even if Ezra isn't Snoke and Kanan isn't Jerec, Thrawn could be a villain on a sequel-show a couple decades in the future with whoever else is bad at the time. Heck he could be on the Centrist side of the whole Bloodline/New Republic political issue. Which would be neat...

Rogue Pirate Thrawn could work too I guess. It is certainly in his power (re: Thrawn book/Mist Encounter), although he seems to like to protect order rather than create disruption if given a choice. He's not malicious.

I think it'd be enjoyable to see and Snoke and Sloane wrestle over the future of the Empire in the Unknown Regions.

Possible development: Rukh kills Thrawn in Season 4, because why else he's there. But Thrawn already had had himself cloned, and the clone quitely takes his place. Soon he gets "exiled" to build the Empire of the Hand, and returns 10 years later to annoy the victorious Rebels. Then Rukh kils him 2nd time. The next clone for some reason is not mature yet, and when he is ready to rise and shine, Luke and Mara destroy him. (Who's Mara? Never mind.) But, as not-existing Mara pointed out, there might be another one behind the events of not-having-happened Survivor's Quest, so if the 4th Thrawn is hiding somewhere in the Unknown Regions, the Resistance might be in for a surprise.

I don't really have a side, but personally, my gut feeling is that Thrawn will survive Rebels because he needs to live long enough to see the Chiss's deal with the devil come back to bite them with the rise of the First Order.

Which leads to such a juicy and interesting storyline. Thrawn comes back a changed and scarred character and teams up with the new government to destroy a threat that is attacking the Chiss.

Obviously don't know what will happen but seems a waste to bring such an interesting character and one with such potential and then kill off after 2 seasons. My guess he is in the next animation series in some form and may die there

What if Thrawn goes back to Chiss Ascendancy and Chiss Ascendancy doesn't join the Empire?

I doubt the Chiss have a large, important government in the new canon.

They're going back to the original intention... the Republic/Empire being the GALACTIC government (minus the Unknown Regions, and I'm still not a fan of how it's still a similar chunk of space, not just the outer edge of the galaxy or deep core, which would make geographic/"astrographic" sense).

The unknown region in my headcanon is like the Louisiana Purchase.
Supposedly when they bought it from Napoleon they had no idea exactly how much land it was.
So the unknown region is just that: unknown size.
You can't just and find out "oh yeah, the Chiss ascendancy is x system large, and that's the end of the unknown regions.
For all we know the unknown region is three times the known GFFA galaxy.

Um, no. People in Star Wars know how big their galaxy is. It's something even us Earthlings know about our Milky Way.

Can we please just forget the existence of that thing? Please? It perished with Jedha and the thrice-accursed Saw.

Why would you want to forget the seventh best character in that movie?

Maybe Saw is a bit like Hagrid, and has a great fondness for bizarre somewhat dangerous creatures?

    Let's see....

    Unruly hair, check.
Uses extreme methods but serves the good guys, check.
Preferred method of travel is a flying beast, check.

Yeah I'm okay with Saw being a SpaceHagrid.
